**About your role:** As an Android Engineer, you will design, build, and maintain point-of-sale (POS) Android applications that support restaurant operations in fast-paced environments. You will partner with product, design, quality assurance, and engineering teams to deliver secure, reliable, and high-performing mobile experiences. Your work will help restaurants operate efficiently through resilient application performance, hardware integration, offline capabilities, and payment functionality. **What you'll do:** - Design, develop, and enhance Android applications that support restaurant POS workflows and operational needs. - Write clean, maintainable code using Kotlin, Java, and established engineering standards to support scalable mobile application development. - Implement user interfaces based on product and design requirements, ensuring responsive experiences aligned to Android design principles and Material Design standards. - Identify and resolve performance bottlenecks to improve application stability, responsiveness, and consistency across devices and screen sizes. - Troubleshoot and resolve defects, working with engineering and quality assurance teams to deliver timely fixes and maintain a high-quality user experience. - Participate in code reviews and contribute to engineering best practices that improve code quality, maintainability, and team effectiveness. - Develop and execute unit tests and partner with quality assurance teams to support comprehensive application validation. - Manage code changes through Git or similar version control systems and maintain accurate technical documentation for code, processes, and project activities. - Build and maintain integrations with restaurant hardware such as receipt printers, card terminals, and kitchen display systems. - Develop and optimize offline-first synchronization logic to support uninterrupted restaurant operations during network interruptions. - Implement secure payment processing workflows that support payment protection requirements and transaction reliability. - Design and develop restaurant POS features such as order management, menu customization, and table management capabilities. - Stay current with Android development trends, tools, and emerging technologies to improve application quality and engineering practices. - Responsibilities listed are not intended to be all-inclusive and may be modified as necessary. **Experience you'll need to have:** - 5+ years of experience in Android application development using Kotlin, Java, and Android Studio in production environments. - Experience developing and maintaining Android applications with strong understanding of Android user interface design principles, user experience guidelines, and Material Design. - Experience integrating applications with RESTful application programming interfaces (APIs), third-party libraries, and external services. - Experience troubleshooting, debugging, and optimizing Android applications for performance, stability, and device compatibility. - Experience using Git or similar version control systems in collaborative software development environments. - Experience implementing or supporting secure payment workflows, including familiarity with EMV and PCI Data Security Standard (PCI DSS) requirements. - Experience integrating Android applications with peripherals such as Bluetooth, USB, and network-connected hardware devices. - Bachelors degree or higher in Computer Science, Software Engineering, or related field or equivalent combination of education, related experience and/or military experience. **Experience that would be great to have:** - Experience with point-of-sale systems or restaurant or retail technology platforms. - Experience with mobile architecture patterns such as Model-View-ViewModel (MVVM), Model-View-Presenter (MVP), or Model-View-Controller (MVC). - Experience with continuous integration and continuous delivery (CI/CD) pipelines for mobile applications. - Experience with cross-platform frameworks such as Flutter or React Native. - Experience with performance profiling and optimization for Android applications. **How you'll work:** - This role is on-site Monday through Friday.
