**Role of an API Tester** API testers focus on the backend functionality of software applications, verifying how different systems communicate through Application Programming Interfaces (APIs) Key Responsibilities The typical responsibilities of an API tester include: - **Designing** **and** **developing** **API** **test** **plans** **and** **test** **cases** based on requirements, API documentation, and intended user flows - **Executing** **test** **cases**, both manually and via automation tools, for validating GET, POST, PUT, DELETE, and PATCH requests - **Validating** **API** **responses**, including status codes, payload data, response time, headers, and overall data integrity - **Identifying,** **reporting,** **and** **tracking** **defects**, inconsistencies, or performance issues and collaborating with developers to implement fixes - **Performing** **different** **types** **of** **API** **testing**, such as functional, integration, regression, security, load, stress, and contract testing . - **Automating** **API** **testing** using tools and frameworks like Postman, SoapUI, Rest Assured, JMeter, or Katalon Studio, and integrating tests into CI/CD pipelines for continuous testing - **Documenting** **test** **results** **and** **metrics**, providing actionable insights, and participating in code reviews to suggest improvements in API design - **Ensuring** **APIs** **meet** **functional** **and** **non-functional** **requirements**, such as reliability, scalability, and security standards
