- **About the Role** - We are looking for a seasoned and strategic **Head of Database Engineering** to own and evolve our entire database ecosystem. This is a senior leadership role that goes beyond operations — you will define the long-term database strategy, drive architectural decisions, lead a high-performing team, and ensure our systems are secure, scalable, and cost-efficient across our multi-cloud environment (GCP & AWS). - If you thrive in high-scale, 24x7 production environments and love solving hard problems at the intersection of performance, security, and reliability — this role is for you. - **What You'll Do** - **Strategic & Architectural Leadership** - Define and execute a long-term database strategy aligned with business objectives, focusing on scalability, resilience, and security - Lead all architectural decisions across database solutions with a security-by-design approach across GCP and AWS - Drive aggressive cost optimization strategies and provide regular reporting on efficiency and savings - Research and evaluate emerging database technologies to modernize our stack and drive upgrade/consolidation initiatives - Proactively forecast capacity needs to support growing user base, transaction volumes, and data loads - **Operational Excellence & Governance** - Own end-to-end management, health, and performance of all production and non-production database environments - Design and implement a comprehensive monitoring, logging, and alerting strategy for proactive issue resolution - Champion automation across provisioning, patching, configuration, and routine maintenance - Own database security — encryption (at-rest & in-transit), IAM/RBAC policies, vulnerability management, audits, and hardening - Act as the final escalation point for complex performance issues and deep-dive tuning across diverse database systems - Architect and regularly test robust backup, restore, and disaster recovery plans - **Team Leadership & Collaboration** - Build, mentor, and lead a high-performing team of DBAs and Database Engineers - Partner closely with Development, DevOps, Security, and Product teams for seamless application delivery - Champion DevSecOps practices and ensure compliance with SOC 2, ISO 27001, and data privacy regulations - Communicate database strategy, risks, and performance metrics clearly to executive leadership - **What We're Looking For** - **Experience:** 12–15+ years in database engineering/administration, with at least 5 years in a leadership role in high-scale, 24x7 environments - **Polyglot Database Expertise:**Relational: MySQL, PostgreSQL - NoSQL: MongoDB, Cassandra - Columnar/Analytics: Vertica, Druid - Search: Elasticsearch - Deep expertise in **database security** — encryption, network security, RBAC/IAM, vulnerability scanning, audit logging, SOC 2 & ISO 27001 - Proven experience managing databases in **multi-cloud environments (GCP, AWS)** with a strong track record in cost optimization - Strong background in **architectural design** — secure, scalable, highly available database systems - Strong **automation mindset** — Python, Bash scripting; experience with Terraform or similar IaC tools preferred - Expertise in **observability tools** — Prometheus, Grafana, and cloud-native monitoring solutions - Exceptional **leadership and communication skills** — able to translate complex technical concepts for both technical and non-technical stakeholders - **Why Join Netcore?** - Immense growth and continuous learning opportunities - Solve complex engineering problems at massive scale - Work with top industry talent and global brands - Open, entrepreneurial culture that values innovation and ownership
