Job description

You’ll be working with the **Research and Development** team This team runs on coffee with an infectious passion to build products that have never been built before. Our Flexible Energy Stack consists of the e^pack (battery pack), e^Port (charging connector), e^Plug (charging connector) and e^pump (charging station) which together unlock 15-minute rapid charging. Exponent’s philosophy: **Break. Believe. Build.** There’s no playbook for disruption. The only way to create a radical future is to continuously break, believe and build. Break assumptions and thumb rules. Believe in the process, the team, and through failures. Build fast, passionately, and with first-principles thinking. **Job Description** We are seeking a hands-on Electrical Integration Engineer to lead the design, integration, and validation of high-voltage electrical systems across Exponent’s EV energy products. This role sits at the intersection of electrical design, power electronics, firmware integration, and electro-mechanical systems, with ownership from concept to production. The ideal candidate will drive end-to-end electrical architecture, ensure safety and compliance of HV systems, and debug complex hardware–software interactions in fast-evolving EV platforms. **Key Responsibilities** **Electrical Design & Safety** ● Design and coordinate multi-stage electrical protection schemes for HV and LV systems ● Size and select protection devices, switchgears, and cables ● Own insulation coordination, including creepage and clearance definitions ● Design earthing and grounding architectures for HV systems ● Ensure compliance with IS, IEC, ISO, SAE, CSA, NFPA, CEA, NEC, NBC standards ● Own HVDC safety concepts and validation **Electrical & System Integration** ● Integrate power electronics hardware including converters, inverters, sensors, and actuators ● Review and debug schematics, PCBA designs, and component ratings ● Lead hardware–firmware integration, including protocol-level debugging ● Support EMI/EMC testing, harness design, and routing considerations ● Analyze and mitigate effects of parasitics in automotive systems **Firmware & Debugging** ● Debug communication protocols: CAN, UART, MODBUS, SPI ● Work with MCU peripherals including ADC configuration ● Diagnose and resolve hardware–software interaction issues ● Collaborate with firmware teams during bring-up and validation **Electro-Mechanical Systems** ● Perform thermal and fluid flow calculations for electrical systems ● Define packaging, separation, filters, and ingress protection strategies ● Interface with chillers and HVAC systems for thermal management **Reliability & Engineering Excellence** ● Own DFMEA and drive mitigation actions ● Lead root cause analysis (RCA) for electro-mechanical failures ● Support reliability testing and modelling across product lifecycle **Required Skills & Experience** ● Experience across 2+ full product development cycles in one or more of the following: ○ Electrical protection & insulation coordination design ○ EV powertrain or >500V battery architecture ○ Power electronics converter design or application ● Strong fundamentals in electrical circuit analysis ● Hands-on experience debugging CAN, MODBUS, SPI ● Proven experience driving DFMEA and reliability validation ● Bachelor’s or Master’s in Electrical / Electronics / Mechatronics Engineering **Preferred Qualities** ● First-principles thinker with strong debugging instincts ● Comfortable working across electrical, firmware, and mechanical teams ● Bias for ownership in a fast-paced startup environment ● Passion for EVs, clean energy, and building hardware that scales **What Matters at Exponent** ● Quality of work and attention to detail ● Structured problem-solving approach ● Discomfort with mediocre solutions ● Resilience and learning mindset through failures **About Us** Exponent simplifies energy for EVs. Co-founded by Arun Vinayak (Founding Partner & Former CPO, Ather Energy) and Sanjay Byalal (Former Hardware Strategic Sourcing & Cell Strategy Lead, Ather; Former Supply Chain Lead, HUL), Exponent is solving EV energy challenges by building the e^pack and e^pump, enabling 15-minute rapid charging. With a 200+ strong team of passionate builders, Exponent is one of the most experienced EV teams in India — and we’re looking for more builders to help us scale.
