Together, we are building a better world, so we can all enjoy living in it. **Engineer – Core Engine Component Engineering** **Position: Design Engineer SG 22** **Location: Chennai / Bangalore / Aurangabad** Large Power Systems Division (LPSD) is currently looking for an Engineer to lead the development and maintenance of core engine components for Caterpillar Engine applications. The position is accountable for leading the design, development and validation of core engine components (5C components include cylinder heads, cylinder blocks, crankshafts, connecting rods, camshafts, gears, housings, pistons, rings, liners, and valve mechanism components.) and systems in support of New Source Introduction (NSI), Continuous Product Improvement (CPI) and New Product Introduction (NPI) projects. The position will have broad responsibility from concept development to release to production in a manner to ensure products provide superior performance, durability, quality, and serviceability. The individual must have strong communication skills to collaborate effectively with NSI lead, product group teams, and key strategic suppliers to effectively design and development components and system solutions supporting product group’s program deliverables. Clear and consistent communication, the ability to troubleshoot, and solid technical aptitude are essential in this position for effective collaboration with diverse teams. **Job duties:** - In this position, you will be mainly responsible for Design and development Reciprocating Engines Core components (5C components include cylinder heads, cylinder blocks, crankshafts, connecting rods, camshafts, gears, housings, pistons, rings, liners, and valve mechanism components) and related processes. - Understand program requirements, boundary conditions & dynamics aspects & refine the design in close collaboration with component suppliers without compromising in design requirements and solve Manufacturing, Assembly & Field issues. - Lead technical evaluation, design calculations, and participate in design decisions - Utilize & follow key product development processes (FMEA, DVP&R, APQP, PPAP etc.) inherent in NTI, NPI, CPI, Maintenance & Cost Reduction Programs. - Carry out basic performance analysis of the subsystem’s using analysis tools. - Provide technical support to Manufacturing, Quality, and Purchasing team during the proto development - Collaborate with Technical Leads, SME & Chief Engineer for test & validation requirements and communicate the results to cross functional team & Stakeholders for alignment to proceed for production. - Ensure that drawing contains all the relevant information required for downstream usage - Keeps abreast of latest technological advancements in Reciprocating Engine Valve Trains & develop innovative solutions for better quality & cost competitive designs. - Lead project completion to time, quality and cost targets - Effectively collaborate with internal & external suppliers and partners to meet the business goals Travel of approximately 15%–20% of time to supplier and manufacturing facilities is expected.. **Basic Qualifications:** - Bachelor’s degree in engineering with 7+ years of relevant work experience progressively responsible job-related experience are typically required. - Minimum of 3+ years of component design or validation experience - Good functional knowledge on Core Engine Components system & subsystems - Ability to perform complex assignments, strong analytical skills with good interpersonal & global collaboration skills. - Skills in design & analysis tools preferably in Creo & Performance software ( AVL & GT Software’s) - Project management and Knowledge on NPI, NTI & CPI process with excellent communications skills are necessary. - Self-starter with good multitasking skills to optimize and deliver desired results under challenging requirements of quality, cost (development and product), and timelines - Willingness to travel globally as per project requirements are required. **Top Candidates Will Also Have:** - Master’s degree (or equivalent) in Mechanical Engineering or equivalent - Experience in working with global teams - Pro-E , NX IDEAS and Cat Engineering Standards experience **Skill Descriptors** **Analytical Thinking:** Knowledge of techniques and tools that promote effective analysis; ability to determine the root cause of organizational problems and create alternative solutions that resolve these problems.
