Job description

About SailPoint SailPoint is the leader in identity security for the cloud enterprise. Our identity security solutions secure and enable thousands of companies worldwide, giving our customers unmatched visibility across their digital workforce and helping ensure that workers have the right access to do their jobs—no more, no less. Built on a foundation of AI and machine learning, SailPoint Identity Security delivers the right level of access to the right identities and resources at the right time, matching the scale, velocity, and changing needs of today’s cloud-oriented modern enterprise. About the Role As an Engineering Manager, you will lead and grow the software engineering team responsible for a critical virtual appliance that customers deploy within their private environments. The appliance provides a secure, reliable connection between customer-managed systems and SailPoint Identity Security. You will own engineering execution, collaborate with Product Management on the roadmap, and help the team deliver meaningful customer outcomes with greater speed and predictability. In a typical day, you may coach an engineer, review an architectural proposal, refine sprint priorities, coordinate a release or incident follow-up with a peer team, and communicate roadmap progress and risks. You will not be expected to write code routinely, but you will be technically engaged: able to read code, understand the systems your team owns, ask insightful questions, and guide sound decisions involving Linux, virtualization, containerization, and customer-deployed software. You will continue developing the team’s Scrum practices around a predictable two-week sprint cadence while preserving the flexibility to respond to urgent customer and operational needs. You will also champion responsible use of modern AI and LLM capabilities to improve engineering effectiveness, quality, decision-making, and business outcomes. This role is based in India. Candidates may work remotely, in a hybrid arrangement, or from SailPoint’s Pune office. Substantial daily overlap with U.S. working hours is required. Periodic team gatherings in the United States provide optional opportunities for in-person collaboration and travel. About the Team This distributed software engineering team owns the complete lifecycle of SailPoint’s customer-deployed virtual appliance—from architecture and development through distribution, installation, upgrades, patching, compatibility, vulnerability remediation, diagnostics, reliability, and incident response. Engineers participate in an on-call rotation for customer-impacting issues. The team works closely with Product Management and with experts across security, vulnerability management, architecture, release engineering, support, and other engineering organizations. It is strengthening the platform’s foundations while pursuing an ambitious roadmap designed to make the appliance easier for customers to deploy, operate, and rely on. Roadmap for Success The following milestones describe how success in this role will be measured. Specific delivery and reliability targets will be established using current platform and team baselines. 30 days • Build trusted working relationships with every team member and key partners across Product Management, architecture, security, vulnerability management, release engineering, and support. • Develop a working understanding of the platform architecture, codebase, roadmap, release lifecycle, customer experience, operational history, and major technical risks. • Assess the team’s current delivery practices, staffing needs, and near-term priorities, then share a focused 90-day action plan with stakeholders. 90 days • Take full ownership of engineering execution, team development, delivery reporting, dependency management, and risk communication. • Establish a consistent two-week Scrum cadence with clear backlog refinement, sprint planning, reviews, retrospectives, and visible progress against commitments. • Agree with Product Management and technical partners on a prioritized stabilization plan, roadmap sequencing, and baseline measures for delivery predictability and platform reliability. • Define and begin executing a hiring and team-development plan aligned with the roadmap. 6 months • Demonstrate measurable improvement against the delivery and reliability baselines established during the first 90 days. • Deliver the highest-priority platform stabilization work while maintaining visible progress on customer-focused roadmap commitments. • Strengthen production ownership through effective incident response, learning reviews, vulnerability remediation, and follow-through on reliability improvements. • Introduce practical, responsible AI-assisted workflows that produce demonstrable improvements in engineering quality, decision-making, or delivery efficiency. • Make measurable progress against the agreed hiring plan and ensure every engineer has clear expectations, feedback, and development goals. 1 year • Meet the platform stability, supportability, and delivery targets agreed with engineering and product stakeholders. • Operate a mature, predictable Scrum model that consistently balances roadmap delivery with customer and operational priorities. • Deliver meaningful roadmap milestones that improve how customers deploy, upgrade, operate, and rely on the virtual appliance. • Establish and begin executing a multi-quarter technical strategy for the platform’s continued modernization and architectural evolution. • Build a stronger, appropriately staffed team with clear ownership, healthy collaboration, and
