Job description

**Examination of Tissue Samples** - Analyze biopsy, surgical, and autopsy specimens. - Examine tissues microscopically to identify normal and abnormal changes. 1. **Disease Diagnosis** - Diagnose diseases such as: - Cancer - Infections - Inflammatory disorders - Autoimmune diseases - Degenerative conditions 2. **Cancer Diagnosis and Staging** - Confirm the presence or absence of cancer. - Determine the type, grade, and stage of tumors. - Assess surgical margins and lymph node involvement. 3. **Preparation and Interpretation of Laboratory Specimens** - Ensure proper processing, fixation, embedding, sectioning, and staining of tissue samples. - Interpret special stains and advanced diagnostic tests. 4. **Use of Advanced Diagnostic Techniques** - Perform and interpret: - Immunohistochemistry (IHC) - Molecular pathology tests - Fluorescence in situ hybridization (FISH), where appropriate - Digital pathology and image analysis 5. **Reporting Findings** - Prepare accurate, clear, and timely pathology reports. - Communicate diagnostic findings to treating physicians. 6. **Clinical Collaboration** - Work closely with surgeons, oncologists, radiologists, and other healthcare professionals. - Participate in multidisciplinary team (MDT) meetings to discuss patient management. 7. **Quality Assurance** - Maintain quality standards in laboratory procedures. - Ensure compliance with laboratory safety protocols and accreditation requirements. 8. **Teaching and Training** - Educate medical students, pathology residents, laboratory staff, and other healthcare professionals. - Provide guidance on specimen collection and handling. 9. **Research and Development** - Conduct research on disease mechanisms and diagnostic techniques. - Contribute to the development of new biomarkers and diagnostic methods. 10. **Autopsy Examination (where applicable)** - Perform post-mortem examinations. - Determine the cause of death and evaluate disease processes. - Contribute to medical education and public health investigations. Key Skills Required - Strong knowledge of pathology and human anatomy - Excellent microscopic interpretation skills - Attention to detail and analytical thinking - Effective written and verbal communication - Familiarity with laboratory technologies and digital pathology - Ability to work collaboratively within multidisciplinary healthcare teams - Commitment to accuracy, ethics, and continuous professional development
