Role purpose • To establish, implement, maintain and improve an integrated HSE Management across all sites with Seeds Business Unit (BU) • To implement Global, Regional and Local HSE standards, guidelines and legislation pertaining to the Syngenta Seeds operations. • To provide HSE direction and support to internal and external stakeholder • To coordinate, manage, support, execute and monitor health, safety and environmental programs, standards, and processes to ensure health, safety and compliance in the workplace Accountabilities • Lead and manage compliance against the Syngenta HSE Management System requirements in alignment with cross-functional Seeds operational activities • Ensure that agreed upon HSE Management Standards are established, implemented and maintained • Develop HSE objectives, targets, priorities and programes for the Seeds R&D • Integrate HSE into all Seeds R&D processes to minimize health and safety risks & potential negative impacts to environment • Ensure full compliance with applicable Syngenta HSE standards and other legal requirements • Ensure that incidents are reported, investigated, reviewed and communicated with relevant stakeholders • Reinforce HSE observations reporting and achieve goal of reporting frequency per employee • Work with regional and country HSE Leads to align to regional and global goals • Continually seek new ways of HSE improvement • Keep staff and contractors informed regarding changes & new developments with HSE • Manage HSE training execution to maintain Syngenta Standards and current legislation • Ensure that HSE operates within the Fixed Expense Budget and CAPEX Budget • Conducts HSE audits both internal and external while supporting improvement plans • Lead the accident / incident investigation • Coordinate, report and follow up on HSE Observations - carry out analysis of accident / incident statistics, identifying trends and suggesting improvement plans • Provides technical support to site leadership team on any safety related subjects • Perform risk identification, analyses, assessment and provide mitigating solutions • Provides HSE support and advice, including supervision on preparation of plans and procedures in major projects and contractors • In collaboration with Syngenta Corporate Security function, create awareness in respect of compliance with the security measures and controls • Collaborate with health practitioners to Occupational Health promotion initiatives and implement mental health and wellness Critical qualification • A bachelor’s degree in a health, safety, or equivalent • 5 years’ experience of managing safety in a similar environment • Experience of Health, Safety, Environment and Quality standards such as ISO 9001, ISO 14001, OSHAS 18001 and ISO45001 • Relevant experience in the Seed industry will be advantageous Critical knowledge & Experience • Sound knowledge of Occupational Health and Safety (OHS) Act as well as its regulations and other environmental legislations • Knowledge of all internal and external regulations and legislation relating to Syngenta activities • Knowledge and experience in HSE Auditing • Knowledge of Health and Safety, Hazard Identification and Risk Assessment and environmental impact assessment • Knowledge in controlling hazardous substances, driving safety and contractor management Critical Skills • Good analytical skills and the ability to think critically • Good public speaking skills • Leadership skills • Proficient in all Microsoft Applications • Good organization skills • Strong leadership and teamwork • Risk management and Problem solving • Good communication and interpersonal skills • Results oriented Critical success factors & key challenges Customer-Focused: Timely responds to requests for information, customer needs and resolving problems.
