**Overview** We are looking for a highly technical, hands-on Lead Engineer to take ownership of mission-critical order management and billing platforms within a large-scale, distributed environment. This role sits at the intersection of **backend engineering, production operations, and system design** , requiring someone who can both resolve complex live issues and drive long-term improvements to platform reliability, scalability, and performance. You will act as the technical authority for high-impact incidents while partnering closely with engineering, product, and infrastructure teams to enhance system architecture and operational excellence. **Key Responsibilities** **1. Incident & Problem Management** - Lead the resolution of critical, multi-system production incidents across complex distributed systems - Own the full incident lifecycle, including triage, stakeholder communication, mitigation, and post-incident review - Perform deep-dive root cause analysis (RCA) across APIs, microservices, databases, and system integrations - Translate recurring issues into actionable improvements for engineering and product teams **2. Platform Reliability & Continuous Improvement** - Identify system bottlenecks and drive initiatives to improve stability, scalability, and performance - Design and implement monitoring and observability solutions (APM, logging, alerting) - Lead efforts to reduce manual operational work through automation and tooling - Partner with engineering teams to influence system design, architecture, and technical roadmap **3. Technical Leadership** - Act as the subject matter expert for order-to-activation (O2A) workflows and billing systems - Mentor engineers across L1/L2 support and development teams, raising overall technical standards - Define operational metrics (KPIs/SLAs) and ensure consistent service quality - Maintain high-quality documentation, runbooks, and knowledge-sharing practices **4. Cross-Functional Collaboration** - Work closely with product, engineering, and infrastructure teams to improve system performance - Represent operations in architectural discussions and technical decision-making - Ensure alignment between production realities and future platform development **Required Qualifications** - Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or related field - 5+ years of hands-on experience with **Java-based backend systems (microservices architecture)** - 5+ years of experience in **order management, billing, or transaction-heavy platforms** - Strong expertise in **SQL and NoSQL databases (e.g., Couchbase or similar)** - Experience with **containerized and cloud-native environments** (Docker, Kubernetes) - Familiarity with **CI/CD and DevOps tooling** (e.g., Jenkins, Ansible) - Proven ability to troubleshoot and resolve complex production issues in distributed systems - Strong communication skills, with the ability to explain technical issues to both technical and non-technical stakeholders **Preferred Experience** - Experience working with large-scale customer-facing platforms or high-throughput systems - Background in telecom, fintech, or other transaction-heavy industries - Familiarity with IT service management frameworks (e.g., ServiceNow, Jira) - Experience leading technical initiatives or managing small teams - Strong focus on automation, observability, and operational excellence
