**Job Description: Mechanical Engineering Architect – Mechanical Design** **Location:** Bangalore **Experience:** 8-15 years **About The Role** We are looking for an experienced **Mechanical Engineering Architect** to lead the mechanical design, structural analysis, packaging, enclosure design, motor mechanical design, and gearbox integration activities for our **X-in-1 Electric Drivetrain Systems** . The candidate will be responsible for defining the complete mechanical architecture of integrated EV powertrain systems, including motor, gearbox, inverter, OBC, DC-DC converter, PDU, cooling systems, busbar routing, connectors, mounting interfaces, and enclosure packaging. This role requires strong expertise in mechanical product design, structural and thermal-mechanical considerations, manufacturability, vehicle integration, supplier interaction, and cross-functional coordination with electrical, electronics, thermal, software, testing, manufacturing, and OEM teams. **Roles And Responsibilities** - Define the complete mechanical architecture for X-in-1 EV drivetrain systems. Develop optimal packaging concepts for motor, gearbox, inverter, OBC, DC-DC, PDU, cooling system, connectors, and harness interfaces. - Finalize mechanical envelope, mounting strategy, component placement, and subsystem interfaces. - Work on vehicle-level integration, mounting points, clearances, serviceability, and installation requirements. - Perform and guide structural analysis of housings, brackets, covers, enclosures, mounting structures, and load-bearing parts. - Evaluate mechanical strength under vehicle loads, road loads, torque reactions, thermal expansion, and assembly stresses. - Support correlation of CAE results with physical test results. - Work on motor housing, cooling jacket, shaft interface, bearing arrangement, rotor-stator packaging, resolver/sensor mounting, and terminal connections. - Evaluate motor mechanical constraints such as rotor dynamics, bearing loads, sealing, cooling, manufacturability, and assembly sequence. - Coordinate with motor suppliers for drawings, interfaces, tolerances, cooling requirements, and validation requirements. - Coordinate with gearbox suppliers for gear ratio, torque capacity, NVH, lubrication, durability, packaging, and interface requirements. - Work on geartrain layout, housing integration, bearing supports, shafts, differential interface, lubrication, sealing, and mounting. - Review gearbox design from the perspective of strength, manufacturability, assembly, serviceability, and vehicle integration. - Support design reviews for motor-gearbox mechanical coupling and alignment. - Design and architect enclosures for power electronics, motor controller, OBC, DC-DC, PDU, and integrated drivetrain systems. - Define sealing strategy, gasket design, fastener strategy, creepage/clearance-related mechanical barriers, and service covers. - Work closely with thermal and CFD teams to integrate cold plates, cooling jackets, coolant passages, and thermal interfaces. - Support prototype drawings, supplier drawings, manufacturing drawings, and assembly documentation. - Support RFIs, RFQs, technical evaluations, supplier selection, and supplier development activities. - Support mechanical validation planning for vibration, shock, thermal cycling, IP testing, salt spray, durability, mounting strength, and environmental tests. **Eligibility** - 8 to 15 years of experience in mechanical design, structural analysis, packaging, or product development. - B.E./B.Tech or M.E./M.Tech in Mechanical Engineering, Automotive Engineering, Mechatronics, or related engineering discipline. - Specialization in machine design, structural analysis, automotive systems, or product design will be an added advantage. **Desired Skills** - Strong knowledge of mechanical design principles, structural analysis, packaging, GD&T, tolerance stack-up, and manufacturing processes. - Hands-on experience in 3D CAD tools such as CATIA, Creo, SolidWorks, NX, or equivalent. - Experience with CAE tools such as ANSYS Mechanical, HyperWorks, Abaqus, Nastran, or equivalent. - Experience with integrated EV systems, e-axle, or electric drive units. - Ability to convert high-level requirements into practical mechanical architecture. - Good communication and coordination skills with internal teams, OEMs, and suppliers. **L&T Company Overview / About Us** L&T is a USD 30 billion Indian multinational engaged in EPC Projects, Hi-Tech Manufacturing, and Services, operating across multiple geographies.
