Job description

**About this role:** Wells Fargo is seeking a Principal Engineer to lead the design, modernization, and evolution of the AutoSys platform within the AutoSys Engineering organization. This role will drive platform build and innovation initiatives focused on scalability, resilience, and cloud-native transformation, while enabling enterprise-wide workload automation capabilities. The Principal Engineer will act as a technical leader and architect, partnering with SRE, application teams, and platform stakeholders to deliver next-generation scheduling solutions. **In this role, you will:** - Act as an advisor to leadership to develop or influence applications, network, information security, database, operating systems, or web technologies for highly complex business and technical needs across multiple groups - Lead the strategy and resolution of highly complex and unique challenges requiring in-depth evaluation across multiple areas or the enterprise, delivering solutions that are long-term, large-scale and require vision, creativity, innovation, advanced analytical and inductive thinking - Translate advanced technology experience, an in-depth knowledge of the organizations tactical and strategic business objectives, the enterprise technological environment, the organization structure, and strategic technological opportunities and requirements into technical engineering solutions - Provide vision, direction and expertise to leadership on implementing innovative and significant business solutions - Maintain knowledge of industry best practices and new technologies and recommends innovations that enhance operations or provide a competitive advantage to the organization - Strategically engage with all levels of professionals and managers across the enterprise and serve as an expert advisor to leadership **Required Qualifications:** - 7+ years of Engineering experience, or equivalent demonstrated through one or a combination of the following: work experience, training, military experience, education **Desired Qualifications:** - Extensive experience with AutoSys or enterprise workload schedulers (e.g., Control‑M, TWS), including platform modernization, migrations, and large-scale implementations - Strong expertise in cloud-native architecture, including Kubernetes, OpenShift, and containerized application design - Hands-on experience building and operating CI/CD pipelines, infrastructure-as-code, and DevOps-driven platform environments - Deep knowledge of distributed systems design, including scalability, high availability, fault tolerance, and multi-data centre architectures - Strong experience with observability frameworks (logging, monitoring, tracing) using tools such as Splunk, Prometheus, Grafana, or equivalent - Proven experience designing and building platform APIs, microservices, and self-service platforms at enterprise scale - Expertise in automation and scripting (Python, Shell, Ansible, or similar) to improve operational efficiency and reduce manual effort - Experience with event-driven architecture and job orchestration frameworks, including dependency management and workflow automation - Solid understanding of security best practices, including authentication, authorization, and secure platform design - Familiarity with enterprise governance, compliance, audit, and change management processes in large regulated environments - Experience supporting or enabling cloud migration and modernization initiatives (e.g., legacy to cloud transformation) - Exposure to performance tuning, capacity planning, and system optimization for high-volume platforms - Experience integrating with enterprise tools and platforms (e.g., CI/CD tools, API gateways, observability stacks) - Strong troubleshooting skills with the ability to diagnose complex platform and distributed system issues - Proven ability to work in large, cross-functional, and globally distributed teams **Job Expectations:** - Lead the design and delivery of scalable, resilient, and cloud-native AutoSys platform solutions - Drive platform modernization and transformation initiatives, including containerization and automation - Define and influence architecture and technical strategy across multiple teams and domains - Partner with Engineering, Product, and SRE teams to enable automation-first and self-service capabilities - Ensure high standards for system reliability, performance, and operational excellence - Mentor engineers and contribute to building a strong technical culture and capability - Collaborate effectively with global teams and stakeholders to deliver complex, enterprise-scale initiatives **Preferred Qualifications:** - Hands-on experience driving AutoSys modernization initiatives, including containerized agent adoption and cloud transformation - Strong understanding of observability practices, including logging, monitoring, and distributed tracing, along with automation frameworks - Proven experience building scalable platform APIs and enabling self-service capabilities for enterprise users - Familiarity with enterprise governance, compliance standards, and change management processes - 2+ years of experience in enterprise platform engineering or distributed systems - Strong expertise in AutoSys Workload Automation (or similar schedulers like Control-M, TWS) - Deep understanding of: - Job scheduling frameworks and dependency orchestration - Cloud platforms (OpenShift/Kubernetes, GCP/AWS/Azure) - CI/CD pipelines and DevOps practices - Experience in large-scale system design, resiliency engineering, and performance optimization **Posting End Date:** 5 Jul 2026 -
