Job Title: R&D Senior Member of Technical Staff, Product Development Location: Bangalore Employment Type: Regular, full-time, hybrid work arrangement The job At AVEVA, we are looking for experienced backend engineer, owning service and storage layers for enterprise products. You’ll deliver production-grade capabilities with a strong focus on performance, reliability, security, and sustainable engineering practices. You will also be contributing to end-to-end delivery of medium-to-high complexity backlog items, translates process-data use cases into reliable product behaviour, and ensures changes are production-safe through robust automated and scenario-based validation for our PI Visualization team. Key responsibilities • Design and build backend services: define API/service contracts, storage layers, implement core business logic, and ensure maintainable service architecture. • Own storage & data access layers: schema design, migrations, data integrity, query patterns for better performance, and persistence reliability. • Drive performance & scalability: profiling, query optimization, caching strategies, and capacity-minded design. • Operational excellence: observability-by-design (logs/metrics/traces), incident triage support, and reliability improvements. • CI/CD and release health: strengthen pipelines, quality gates, deployment safety, and rollback readiness. • Secure engineering: apply secure-by-design practices, authn/authz integration, secrets handling, and vulnerability remediation. • Dependency, upgrade & modernization work: framework/runtime upgrades, library governance, compatibility/backward-compatibility planning, and tech debt reduction. • Quality leadership: code reviews, testing strategy (unit/integration), definition-of-done, and regression prevention. • Collaborate and influence: cross-team dependency coordination, clear technical communication, and mentoring. • Own documentation and knowledge sharing—write clear design docs and deliver tech talks to improve team alignment and long-term maintainability. • Continuously deepen domain expertise—expand working knowledge of the product/technical domain and apply it to day-to-day decisions and solution design. Essential requirements • Bachelor’s/Master’s in CS/Engineering (or equivalent practical experience). • Strong backend engineering experience in C#/.NET building Web API / REST services. • Strong SQL skills (SQL Server and/or PostgreSQL): schema design, indexing, query optimization, transactions, and migrations. • Proven ownership of medium-to-high complexity features end-to-end (design → build → test → release/support). • Strong debugging/problem-solving across service + data layers and distributed environments. • Working experience with CI/CD and release practices (pipelines, environments, deployment safety). • Strong collaboration and communication in cross-functional teams. • Strong engineering fundamentals: clean, maintainable architecture, and well-tested code. Desired skills and competencies • Experience with distributed systems and production diagnostics (logs/metrics/tracing, latency analysis, failure modes). • Proven performance engineering practices—load testing, bottleneck analysis, caching strategies, and sustained latency/throughput improvements. • Strong secure engineering mindset—auth modernization familiarity (OIDC/JWT), secure configuration/secrets, and dependency/vulnerability risk management. • Experience driving modernization and upgrade programs (runtime/framework/library upgrades), reducing tech debt and improving maintainability over time. • Habit of learning, experimentation, and knowledge-sharing—spikes/prototypes, trade-off analysis, clear design docs—and mentoring to raise the bar across the team. Preferred skills • Azure experience (App Services/AKS, SQL, monitoring tooling) and/or Azure DevOps pipelines. • Exposure to event-driven patterns (queues/topics), feature flags, or multi-tenant SaaS considerations. • Familiarity with AI-assisted development tools (e.g., GitHub Copilot) and responsible usage in engineering workflows. <p
