**Job Summary** The Safety Engineer (Machine Safety) is responsible for ensuring the safe design, installation, operation, maintenance, and compliance of manufacturing equipment and automated systems within the electronics manufacturing facility. The role focuses on machine safeguarding, risk assessments, automation safety, electrical safety, regulatory compliance, and implementation of engineering controls to eliminate workplace hazards and prevent injuries. The incumbent will partner with Production, Maintenance, Engineering, Automation, Facilities, and EHS teams to establish world-class machine safety standards and drive continuous improvement in operational safety performance. **Key Responsibilities** **Machine Safety Management** - Develop, implement, and sustain machine safety programs across all manufacturing operations. - Conduct machine safety assessments for SMT lines, PCB assembly equipment, testing stations, conveyors, robotic systems, automated assembly lines, and utility equipment. - Ensure compliance with machine safety standards, regulations, and company EHS requirements. - Establish machine safeguarding requirements for new and existing equipment. **Risk Assessment & Hazard Analysis** - Perform Machine Risk Assessments (MRA) and Hazard Identification & Risk Assessments (HIRA). - Identify hazards associated with: - Moving machinery - Robotics and automation systems - Pneumatic and hydraulic systems - Electrical equipment - Material handling systems - Automated testing equipment - Recommend engineering controls and risk reduction measures. - Validate effectiveness of implemented controls. **Machine Guarding & Safety Systems** - Review and approve machine guarding designs. - Ensure adequate protection through: - Fixed guards - Interlocked guards - Safety light curtains - Safety mats - Two-hand control systems - Emergency stop systems - Safety PLCs and relays - Conduct periodic inspections and validation of safety devices. - Monitor compliance with safeguarding standards across the facility. **Equipment & Process Safety** - Participate in equipment procurement reviews to ensure machine safety requirements are incorporated during design stages. - Perform Pre-Start Safety Reviews (PSSR) before machine commissioning. - Support implementation of safety-by-design principles. - Ensure safety controls are maintained during process changes and equipment modifications. **Electrical Safety & LOTO** - Implement and manage Lockout/Tagout (LOTO) programs. - Conduct audits of LOTO compliance. - Ensure safe isolation procedures for maintenance and servicing activities. - Support electrical safety inspections and assessments. - Investigate electrical incidents and near misses. **Incident Investigation** - Lead investigations related to machine incidents, injuries, equipment failures, and near-miss events. - Conduct Root Cause Analysis (RCA) and implement corrective and preventive actions. - Track closure of action items and verify effectiveness. **Contractor & Maintenance Safety** - Coordinate safety requirements for contractors working on machinery installation, modification, servicing, and maintenance activities. - Monitor compliance to safety procedures during shutdowns and upgrades. **Safety Audits & Compliance** - Conduct machine safety inspections and audits. - Ensure compliance with legal and statutory requirements. - Maintain machine safety documentation, inspection records, and compliance registers. - Support customer and third-party EHS audits. **Training & Capability Building** - Deliver machine safety awareness and LOTO training programs. - Train maintenance, engineering, and production personnel on safe machine operation. - Develop safety procedures, standards, SOPs, and work instructions. - Promote machine safety culture across all levels of the organization. **Qualification and Experience** - M. E / M. Tech (Industrial Safety) with Certified Machine Safety Professional (CMSP) from a recognized institute - 5-8 years of experience in manufacturing EHS with minimum 3 years focused on machine safety. **Preferred Industry Background** - Electronics Manufacturing Services (EMS) - PCB Assembly / SMT Manufacturing - Automotive Electronics **Required Competencies** - Machine Safety - Machine Risk Assessment (MRA) - Machine Guarding Design - Safety Interlocks - Emergency Stop Circuits - Safety Sensors and Light Curtains - Robotics Safety **EHS & Compliance** - Lockout/Tagout (LOTO) - Hazard Identification & Risk Assessment (HIRA) - Incident Investigation & Root Cause Analysis - Contractor Safety Management - Permit-to-Work Systems - Fire & Electrical Safety - ISO 45001 and ISO 14001 **Behavioral Competencies** - Strong safety leadership and influencing skills. - Excellent problem-solving and analytical capability. - Ability to challenge unsafe practices constructively. - Effective communication with cross-functional stakeholders. - Strong attention to detail and compliance orientation. - Training and facilitation skills.
