Role Overview The Composite Buyer is responsible for sourcing, qualifying, and managing suppliers of composite materials, prepregs, fibers, resins, core materials, and composite-manufactured structures for Skyroot's launch vehicles. This role sits at the intersection of engineering and supply chain, requiring deep understanding of advanced composite materials and the supplier ecosystem supporting aerospace manufacturing. Key Responsibilities • Source and qualify global and domestic suppliers for carbon fiber, glass fiber, aramid fiber, prepreg materials, epoxy resins, phenolic resins, honeycomb core, and foam core materials • Manage end-to-end procurement of composite raw materials and finished composite structures (nose fairings, inter-stage structures, payload adapters, pressure vessels) • Lead supplier qualification activities in coordination with Materials & Processes (M&P) and Structures engineering teams • Negotiate pricing, delivery schedules, and long-term agreements with suppliers to achieve cost, quality, and delivery targets • Drive NPI (New Product Introduction) procurement activities for new composite components entering production • Develop and maintain a dual-source strategy for critical composite materials to ensure supply chain resilience • Track and manage supplier delivery performance, quality escapes, and corrective actions • Collaborate with receiving inspection and QA teams to ensure incoming composite materials meet approved material specifications (AMS, ASTM, or equivalent) • Support cost reduction initiatives through value engineering, alternate material qualification, and competitive re-sourcing • Maintain accurate purchase orders, supplier records, and procurement data in ERP systems • Monitor global market trends in composite materials (carbon fiber supply, pricing dynamics, new material technologies) Required Qualifications • Bachelor's degree in Materials Science, Aerospace Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, or a related technical field • 3–7 years of procurement or supply chain experience in aerospace, defense, or advanced manufacturing • Demonstrated experience procuring composite materials or composite-manufactured components • Strong understanding of composite material forms: woven fabrics, UD tapes, prepregs, wet layup materials, and core materials • Familiarity with material specifications and testing standards (AMS 3894, ASTM D3039, etc.) • Experience with supplier qualification and AS9100 / NADCAP requirements • Proficiency with ERP systems (SAP, Oracle, or equivalent) and procurement tools • Strong negotiation, communication, and supplier relationship management skills Preferred Qualifications • Experience at a launch vehicle, or aerospace structures manufacturer • Familiarity with ITAR/export control compliance in aerospace procurement • Experience with long-lead material planning and buffer stock strategies • Knowledge of domestic Indian composite material suppliers and the MSME supplier base • Exposure to composite manufacturing processes: autoclave, OOA (out-of-autoclave), filament winding, RTM What We Offer • Opportunity to be part of India's most ambitious private space program • Competitive compensation with equity participation • Fast-paced, mission-driven culture with end-to-end ownership • Collaboration with world-class engineers and space industry veterans • Flexible work environment and comprehensive benefits
