Job description

What we want to accomplish and why we need you. Suki is creating a new category in the health-tech space: the digital assistant. Our product will be the voice user interface for healthcare. What does that mean? Currently, doctors use electronic health record systems to take notes on patient encounters. This is a digital version of the paper charts that you may have seen in your doctor’s office or on TV. These systems can be hard to navigate and time-consuming to manage. Doctors would rather spend that time with patients. We are creating the solution. Doctors that use Suki already spend over 70% less time on administrative tasks, and we’re striving to do even better. Come and join us! We are a user-driven company and are committed to making sure every pixel of our product is in service of the doctor. We’re a team of technologists, clinicians, and industry experts working together to push the limits on technology used in medicine. We’re confident enough to move fast and talented enough not to break things. Check out this short video to learn more about our mission and our culture. What will you do every day? Mobile (Primary Focus): • Own and evolve the end-to-end mobile test strategy for iOS and Android, ensuring coverage for mobile-specific concerns: offline and poor-network scenarios, background/foreground transitions, audio streaming and capture, permissions, gestures, and device fragmentation. • Architect and maintain mobile automation frameworks using Appium (or equivalent), with an emphasis on maintainability, execution speed, and stability on real-device and cloud-device grids. • Drive mobile performance, battery, memory, and stress testing across a representative device matrix, and set the quality bar for release readiness. • Investigate complex, cross-platform mobile issues — including native/hybrid layer, network, and audio pipeline problems — and drive them to root cause. Web and Backend (Secondary Focus): • Extend automation coverage to Suki's web surfaces so a single test strategy spans mobile, web, and service layers rather than three disconnected suites. • Design and implement API and service-level automation across REST, gRPC, and GraphQL, including bidirectional streaming and protocol buffers. • Build tests for event-driven and asynchronous flows (Kafka or similar) and for the microservices that the mobile client depends on. • Contribute to backend performance and load testing (K6, Locust, or similar) so that client-side quality claims hold under production-like load. Craft, Leadership, and AI: • Integrate mobile, web, and backend suites into CI/CD pipelines so that signal is fast, trustworthy, and actionable, with meaningful reporting and flake management. • Drive the design and code review process for test automation, and prioritise maintenance and tech debt in the frameworks you own. • Break complex test engineering work into components that early-career engineers can own, then mentor them through it. A significant share of our team is early in their careers, and your coaching is a core part of the job. • Keep strong documentation of how test design and architecture evolve over time. • Participate actively in SDET hiring, and in prioritising cross-team automation initiatives. • Lead initiatives that apply LLMs and agentic AI to the testing lifecycle — test generation, triage, self-healing locators, and coverage analysis — and help the team assess which tools actually move productivity. Qualifications: • 7+ years as an SDET or equivalent, with a substantial portion focused on mobile test automation and QA process ownership. • Deep expertise in mobile automation: Appium or equivalent, real-device and cloud-device execution, and mobile debugging tools (Xcode Instruments, Android Studio profilers, Charles Proxy, Firebase). • Working knowledge of Swift, Kotlin, and Java in an automation context. • Demonstrated full-stack testing ability: you have written and owned web UI automation (Playwright, Selenium, or similar) and service-level automation against REST, gRPC, or GraphQL APIs. • Proficiency in at least one object-oriented language (Java preferred) and comfort with Python for scripting and data validation. • Solid understanding of microservices, cloud platforms (GCP preferred), containers, and CI/CD systems such as Buildkite or Jenkins. • A track record of mentoring engineers and leading automation projects to completion. • Strong analytical and communication skills, and the self-direction to operate in a fast-moving environment. • BA/BS in Computer Science, Information Science, AI/ML, or a related engineering field; MS/PhD a plus. Good to Have: • Exposure to AI/ML quality engineering. Any hands-on experience validating AI/ML models, pipelines, or data-driven systems is a strong plus — for example, evaluating ASR or NLP output, measuring Word Error Rate, intent classification accuracy, or hallucination rates, or reasoning about precision, recall, and model drift. This is a growth area for the role, not an entry requirement; we will invest in ramping the right mobile-strong candidate. • Experience building evaluation harnesses or "model-to-model" validation for production ML systems. • Experience with agentic AI tooling (MCP servers, RAG-based tools, autonomous test agents) applied to the SDLC. • Accessibility and localisation testing on mobile. • Prior start-up experience. (We don't necessarily expect a candidate who has done everything listed, but you should be able to make a credible case that you've done most of it and a
