## Your Team Responsibilities This is a senior engineering role for someone who has been here before. The Lead Software Engineer, HR Technology is the deepest technical practitioner on the team — the person who sets the bar for what good engineering looks like and raises it through the quality of their own work. The role is centered on Azure Databricks as MSCI HR Technology's core application and intelligence platform. You will design and build production-grade applications, deploy AI agents, and architect the patterns the rest of the team builds from. You will not manage people. You will influence them by being the engineer others want to work like. This is a rare opportunity to own the technical direction of a platform that is genuinely early in its trajectory. The HR Data Platform went live in 2025. The agentic layer is being built now. The person in this role will shape how it is done. ## Your Key Responsibilities **Build on Databricks, end to end** - Design and deliver production applications on Azure Databricks — Streamlit apps, Databricks Apps, agent workflows — from architecture through deployment - Develop and ship AI agents using Databricks-native tooling including Mosaic AI Agent Framework, vector search, and LLM integrations - Architect and implement gold layer data marts and analytic models within a Unity Catalog medallion environment - Integrate enterprise systems — Workday, iCIMS, ServiceNow — into Databricks-based workflows via REST APIs and MCP - Own the full development lifecycle on the team's highest-complexity initiatives **Lead on agentic AI** - Design and implement agentic HR solutions: conversational agents, approval workflow automation, intelligent data retrieval - Integrate LLM APIs — including Anthropic Claude — into production applications through robust, scalable patterns - Build and refine multi-step agent pipelines with tool use, structured outputs, and human-in-the-loop controls - Evaluate and bring in emerging Databricks AI capabilities as the platform evolves — you are expected to know what is coming before it arrives **Set the technical standard** - Define and own the engineering patterns, reusable components, and best practices that the broader team builds from - Raise the team's technical floor through code review, pairing, and the quality of what you ship - Contribute to architecture reviews, sprint planning, and backlog prioritization as the technical authority in the room - Collaborate with data engineers and architects to ensure solution engineering builds on a sound data foundation **Engage with the business** - Translate requirements from HR Operations, Talent Acquisition, and Compensation into precise technical solutions - Communicate architecture decisions clearly to non-technical stakeholders — without simplifying away what matters - Participate in the HR AI Lab demo series and represent the engineering perspective in stakeholder forums ## Your skills and experience that will help you excel **Required** - 8+ years of software engineering experience, with at least 3 years of hands-on Databricks development in production environments - Deep fluency in Python, PySpark, and Databricks SQL within a Unity Catalog architecture - Proven track record designing and shipping AI agent workflows — LLM API integration, tool use, prompt engineering — at production scale - Experience building and deploying Databricks Apps or Streamlit applications in an enterprise setting - Strong command of medallion architecture and data modeling best practices - Experience integrating enterprise SaaS platforms via REST APIs - The ability to communicate technical decisions with precision to audiences who did not build the system **Preferred** - Experience with Azure-hosted Databricks and Azure DevOps or GitHub Actions CI/CD pipelines - Familiarity with Databricks Mosaic AI, Vector Search, and the Genie / AI/BI product suite - Exposure to MCP (Model Context Protocol) server development and agentic integration patterns - Background in HR technology or enterprise data products - Experience in a regulated or financial services environment ## About MSCI **What we offer you** - Transparent compensation schemes and comprehensive employee benefits, tailored to your location, ensuring your financial security, health, and overall wellbeing. - Flexible working arrangements, advanced technology, and collaborative workspaces. - A culture of high performance and innovation where we experiment with new ideas and take responsibility for achieving results. - A global network of talented colleagues, who inspire, support, and share their expertise to innovate and deliver for our clients. - Global Orientation program to kickstart your journey, followed by access to our Learning@MSCI platform, AI Learning Center , LinkedIn Learning Pro and tailored learning opportunities for ongoing skills development. - Multi-directional career paths that offer professional growth and development through new challenges, internal mobility and expanded roles. - We actively nurture an environment that builds a sense of inclusion belonging and connection, including eight Employee Resource Groups.
