Job description

We are looking for a contractor to own Snowflake data platform support for the Data Engineering team. The role operates primarily in IST hours, working asynchronously with a CST-based team. The ideal candidate is self-driven, comfortable navigating ambiguous tasks with limited direction, and takes genuine ownership of their work. **CORE RESPONSIBILITIES** - **Request Board Ownership:**Own and manage the Snowflake access request Jira board — keep tickets in the correct status, assigned to the right owners, make changes as necessary and closed with clear comments when complete. - **Code Delivery:**Deliver completed work regularly via pull requests, following team code review and merge workflows. - **Communication:**Respond to ticket comments and team messages in a timely manner; maintain visibility into ongoing work through open, documented communication. - **On-Call Support:**Respond to on-call alerts during assigned roster windows across global time zones and ensure timely handoff of tier pipeline incidents to the onsite team - **AWS Cost Management:**Monitor and manage AWS resource costs, identify optimization opportunities, and maintain visibility into spend trends to support efficient cloud usage across the team - **Security & Service Support:** Maintain and support existing services, with the ability to investigate and resolve security issues across APIs managed by the team **REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS** - Strong sense of ownership and initiative — comfortable working through ambiguous tasks independently and escalating appropriately when genuinely stuck. - Experience with Snowflake or another cloud data warehouse (BigQuery, Redshift, Databricks, etc.); solid SQL skills. - Effective async communicator — proactively shares progress and flags blockers without waiting for scheduled check-ins. - Proficient with Git and GitHub: creating PRs, reviewing code, and resolving build failures. - Comfortable managing work via Jira across sprint cycles. - Available during IST business hours, with some overlap for CST morning stand-ups. **NICE TO HAVE** - Terraform — for managing Snowflake infrastructure as code. - Familiarity with dbt, Airflow, or Kafka in a data engineering context. - Prior experience supporting a data platform or managing a helpdesk/request board. **WORKING STYLE & TEAM FIT** - Approaches problems creatively — explores alternative solutions before escalating. - Collaborative and communicative — keeps the team informed and contributes to a transparent, open working environment. - Comfortable using AI tools to accelerate troubleshooting and day-to-day work. - Asks for help early and with enough context for the team to respond efficiently.
