Amazon's Payroll Technology organization is building the future of payroll processing at unprecedented scale — serving over 1.7 million employees across 50+ countries. We are looking for a Software Development Engineer II to join our Payroll Integrations team and help design, build, and operate mission-critical systems that ensure every Amazonian gets paid accurately and on time.As an SDE II on this team, you will own end-to-end delivery of distributed systems that process and orchestrate employee payroll data across multiple upstream and downstream systems. You'll work on high-throughput data pipelines, configuration-driven integration frameworks, and automation solutions that reduce manual effort and improve payroll accuracy at global scale. Your work will directly impact the employee experience for over a million people worldwide.Key job responsibilitiesWhat You'll Do• Design, develop, and maintain scalable, highly available services that power 65+ payroll integrations across multiple countries and vendors• Build and optimize data pipelines that process employee lifecycle events — from new hires to terminations — ensuring timely and accurate data delivery to payroll systems• Drive technical design decisions, author design documents, and collaborate with Principal Engineers and cross-functional teams to deliver complex projects• Own operational excellence for production systems, including monitoring, alarming, on-call support, and continuous improvement of system reliability• Identify and resolve ambiguous problems, propose innovative solutions, and raise the bar on engineering quality across the team• Mentor junior engineers and contribute to a culture of technical excellence and knowledge sharing
