Job Summary This role involves leading the design and development of exterior automotive components, ensuring technical excellence and project delivery. The successful candidate will provide critical technical expertise and guidance in the creation of innovative exterior systems. Responsibilities - Lead the design and development of exterior automotive components such as bumpers, fenders, tailgates, hoods, doors, and roof rails using CATIA V5. - Generate advanced CAD concepts, detailed designs, and engineering drawings for complex exterior systems. - Provide technical guidance and mentorship to junior engineers on design best practices, problem-solving, and project execution. - Ensure the integrity, accuracy, and maturity of CAD data throughout the entire product development lifecycle. - Manage and progress design activities in alignment with program timelines, budget constraints, and deliverable milestones. - Conduct comprehensive clearance and packaging studies for exterior parts and their interfaces to ensure optimal integration. - Collaborate effectively with styling, manufacturing, and other cross-functional teams to ensure design feasibility, manufacturability, and aesthetic integration. - Identify and resolve complex technical challenges, escalating critical issues to program management when necessary. - Drive the successful achievement of all project deliverables for exterior design, meeting quality and performance targets. - Implement continuous improvement initiatives in design processes, methodologies, and tool utilization. The SrDesignEngineer/Technical Lead-Exterior will be responsible for the end-to-end CAD design and development of various exterior body engineering parts. This includes creating robust CAD geometry and detailed drawings, ensuring all designs meet functional, aesthetic, and manufacturing requirements. A key aspect of this role is to provide technical leadership, ensuring that design solutions are innovative, feasible, and aligned with program objectives. The role also involves proactive identification and resolution of design issues, maintaining high standards of data management, and ensuring timely delivery of all project milestones. Skills and Qualifications - Education: Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering, Automotive Engineering, or a related field. - Experience: 4-10 years of experience in automotive exterior design and development. - Technical Proficiency: Expert-level proficiency in CATIA V5 for surface and solid modeling. - Technical Proficiency: Strong understanding of automotive body engineering principles and exterior system design. - Technical Proficiency: Knowledge of manufacturing processes for exterior components (e.g., stamping, molding). - Technical Proficiency: Familiarity with Geometric Dimensioning and Tolerancing (GDT) principles. - Technical Proficiency: Experience with packaging, clearance, and assembly studies. - Leadership Skills: Demonstrated ability to lead technical projects and guide junior engineers. - Leadership Skills: Strong problem-solving and analytical capabilities. - Leadership Skills: Excellent communication and interpersonal skills for cross-functional collaboration. - Leadership Skills: Ability to manage multiple tasks and prioritize effectively in a fast-paced environment.
