With headquarters in North Bethesda, Maryland, our team members are based primarily in India, the U.S., and Europe. **Job Summary** Chargebee is looking for an inspirationa **l Staff Enginee** r for driving the next generation of its Platform team focused on building reliable, performant, resilient, scalable, and extensible systems. This team works with processing millions of requests per day, handling huge traffic, processing millions of events with high reliability. Additionally, this team builds the framework on top of which the rest of Chargebee operates. This role requires a blend of strong technical expertise, exceptional system design skills, and a passion for leading and mentoring engineering teams. As a Staff Engineer, you will build and oversee the development and delivery of key product features, working closely with cross-functional teams to ensure the successful execution of innovative, customer-focused solutions. Your role will involve both architectural and thought leadership and hands-on technical contributions to ensure the team delivers scalable, high-quality products that meet business objectives. **Key Responsiblities** 1. You will build software that enhances the Product and its capabilities. Platform solutions typically cut horizontally across all Chargebee's products. The solutions must serve multiple use cases, be extensible, and handle high scale. 2. You will work with product management and engineering teams to influence key decisions on architecture and implementation of scalable, reliable, and cost-effective engineering solutions. 3. You will be expected to bring thought leadership to advance the overall state of technology and customer focus for the entire engineering organization. 4. You will set the standards for excellence in your team and osmotically influence the company. 5. Lead by example through hands-on coding when necessary, and inspire your team with your technical expertise. 6. Directly responsible for the career advancement of the engineers at various stages of their career growth. 7. Solid experience in building and maintaining B2C and B2B enterprise grade distributed backend systems. 8. Strong knowledge of Java and allied technologies, Distributed Systems that operate at high scale, queuing systems like Kafka, OLTP databases. 9. Monitoring and alerts at enterprise scale level. Comfortable with technology stacks in the area be they the Open Source, Cloud Native, or proprietary. 10. Experience with building global scale cloud-native systems and modern tech stack, RESTful APIs, Kafka and container-based applications. 11. Experience supporting production systems and a proven track record of identifying and resolving performance bottlenecks for production systems. 12. Ability to identify problems with requirements, identify alternatives, and help your team navigate through these issues 13. Must haves - 12+ years of proven experience in designing enterprise scale SaaS platforms - Hands-on engineer who can lead with example - Demonstrated success building culture of innovation, ownership, accountability, and customer focus - Good communication and presentation skills with ability to interact with different cross-functional teams of varying levels - Experience in building and scaling microservices - Expected to be a role model for young engineers, have a strong sense of quality in both coding and software engineering and enforce this within the team
