**Job Title: VMware Subject Matter Expert (SME)** **Experience:** 812 Years **Location:** Chennai Job Summary We are seeking an experienced **VMware Subject Matter Expert (SME)** to lead the design, implementation, support, and optimization of enterprise VMware infrastructure environments. The role requires deep hands-on expertise across **vSphere, ESXi, vCenter, vSAN, NSX**, and VMware lifecycle management, along with strong troubleshooting and stakeholder engagement skills. The SME will act as the highest level of escalation and a trusted advisor for VMware platform strategy. Key Responsibilities VMware Architecture & Design - Design, review, and validate **VMware infrastructure architectures** for enterprise-scale environments. - Create and maintain **High-Level Design (HLD)** and **Low-Level Design (LLD)** documents. - Define standards, best practices, capacity planning, and sizing guidelines for VMware platforms. Implementation & Operations - Lead installation, configuration, and upgrades of: - VMware vSphere (ESXi, vCenter) - vSAN - NSX / NSX-T - Oversee VMware lifecycle management including patching, upgrades, and version compatibility. - Ensure high availability, fault tolerance, backup, and disaster recovery readiness. Troubleshooting & Support - Act as **L3/L4 escalation point** for complex VMware incidents and performance issues. - Perform root cause analysis (RCA) and implement long-term corrective and preventive solutions. - Optimize performance, capacity utilization, and overall platform stability. Automation & Integration - Support or implement automation using **VMware Aria Suite** (vRealize Operations, Automation, Lifecycle). - Collaborate with cloud, network, security, and DevOps teams for integrated platforms. - Support scripting and automation using PowerCLI or similar tools (preferred). Migration & Transformation - Lead VMware platform migrations and upgrades (legacy environments to modern VMware stacks). - Support data center modernization, private cloud, and hybrid cloud initiatives. - Ensure minimal downtime and business continuity during migrations. Stakeholder & Vendor Management - Act as a **VMware SME and trusted advisor** to application teams, infrastructure teams, and leadership. - Work closely with VMware and OEM vendors for escalations and solution validation. - Provide mentoring, training, and technical knowledge sharing to internal teams. Required Qualifications & Skills Technical Skills - Strong hands-on expertise in: - VMware vSphere, ESXi, vCenter - vSAN - NSX / NSX-T - Experience with VMware Aria Suite (Operations, Automation, Lifecycle) is highly desirable. - Knowledge of backup, DR, and monitoring solutions integrated with VMware. - Strong understanding of compute, storage, and networking fundamentals. Certifications (Preferred) - **VMware Certified Professional (VCP DCV)** - **VMware Certified Advanced Professional (VCAP)** added advantage Experience & Competencies - 812 years of overall IT experience with significant VMware specialization. - Proven experience working as a **VMware SME / Technical Lead / Senior Engineer**. - Excellent troubleshooting and analytical skills. - Strong communication and documentation skills. - Ability to work independently and lead critical infrastructure initiatives.
