Key Responsibilities - Prepare the patient for radiographic examinations; explain procedures and answer any patient questions. - Operate X-ray imaging equipment to produce diagnostic images of the body, ensuring adherence to protocols and high image quality. - Position patients and equipment correctly, including portable/ward X-rays if required. - Observe and maintain patient safety during imaging — including radiation safety, shielding, verifying patient identity, and obtaining informed consent when needed. - Ensure that the images are appropriately labelled, formatted, and archived in the system (PACS/RIS) and that documentation is accurate. - Assist radiologists or senior imaging staff in more complex procedures as required. - Maintain and ensure readiness of radiology equipment: perform routine checks, report faults/malfunctions, and coordinate with biomedical engineering or maintenance for servicing. - Maintain cleanliness, infection-control standards in the imaging room and allied areas. - Manage scheduled appointments, coordinate with other departments (ward, outpatient, emergency) for radiology services, especially urgent/after-hours cases. - Ensure compliance with all safety regulations (ionizing radiation, local laws, hospital policies) and maintain related records. - Maintain stock of consumables (cassettes, films if applicable, contrast media, protective gear) and requisition replacements. - Participate in quality assurance and improvement activities, including image quality audits, patient feedback, and equipment calibration logs. - Perform other duties as assigned by Radiology In-Charge. Qualifications & Experience - Diploma or Bachelor’s degree in Radiography / Radiological Technology (or equivalent) from a recognized institution. - Valid registration/licence as required by local regulatory‐body (if applicable). - Experience of at least 1–3 years in a hospital/diagnostic imaging environment preferred. (For senior roles, 4-6 years or more may be preferred.) - Good working knowledge of digital radiography equipment and PACS/RIS systems. - Familiarity with radiation protection standards and safe handling of equipment. - Ability to work in shifts (including nights / emergency duties) when needed. - Good communication skills, patient-care orientation, and ability to work as part of a multidisciplinary team. - Attention to detail, ability to work under pressure, good organisational skills. Skills & Competencies - Technical proficiency in operating radiographic equipment, selecting exposure parameters, positioning. - Patient care skills: comforting, explaining procedure, safe handling of patients (especially immobile/ICU). - Record-keeping & documentation skills. - Ability to prioritise work, handle urgent diagnostics, multi-task in a hospital environment. - Basic IT skills (for PACS, RIS, image archiving). - Commitment to maintain safety, quality, confidentiality. Working Conditions - This role will involve standing for long periods, movement between imaging rooms, possibly lifting/positioning patients with assistance. - Exposure to ionizing radiation; thus strict adherence to safety protocols and use of protective gear. - Shift duties including weekends/holidays may be required depending on hospital operations. Performance Metrics - Accuracy and quality of radiographic images (minimal repeats). - Turnaround time for imaging and availability of images for reporting. - Equipment downtime/minimal delays. - Compliance with radiation safety and regulatory standards. - Patient satisfaction/feedback. - Participation in QA/improvement initiatives.
