Responsibilities • Nuclear Civil Engineering Delivery • Lead civil and structural engineering delivery from site selection through commissioning and operational handover. • Ensure civil engineering deliverables are issued in line with project schedules and regulatory milestones. • Coordinate engineering activities between technology providers, Owner's Engineers, EPC contractors, and design consultants. • Monitor engineering progress and proactively resolve design and construction bottlenecks. • Support project execution by ensuring civil readiness for procurement, construction, and commissioning. • Nuclear Structures and Building Engineering • Lead engineering oversight for: • Nuclear Island Structures • Reactor Building • Containment Structures • Fuel Handling Building • Reactor Auxiliary and Station Auxiliary Building • Safeguard Buildings • Radioactive Waste Management Facilities • Emergency Control Facilities • Conventional Island & BOP Structures • Turbine Generator Building • Cooling Water Structures • Switchyard Structures • Administrative Buildings • Warehouses and Service Buildings • Water Treatment Facilities • Fire Water Reservoirs and Pump Houses • Site Infrastructure • Roads and Rail Connectivity • Internal Logistics Corridors • Drainage Systems • Security Infrastructure • Construction Facilities • Geotechnical, Seismic and Siting Engineering • Lead review and integration of geotechnical investigations. • Support seismic hazard assessments and site-specific response studies. • Coordinate design inputs arising from: • Seismotectonic studies • Geological investigations • Geophysical investigations • Soil-structure interaction analyses • Liquefaction assessments • Foundation engineering studies, etc. • Ensure civil designs adequately address site-specific nuclear safety requirements. • Design Review and Structural Engineering • Review and approve engineering calculations, structural analyses, and design reports. • Ensure engineering compliance with: • AERB Nuclear Safety Codes • IAEA Standards • ASME Requirements • ACI Codes • IS Codes • RCC-G/RCC-CW requirements where applicable • Lead design reviews for safety-class structures. • Ensure adequate consideration of: • Seismic Loads • Thermal Loads • Blast Loads • Aircraft Impact Loads • Flooding Events • Extreme Weather Events • Review design optimization opportunities while maintaining nuclear safety margins. • Procurement and Package Engineering • Support and develop technical specifications for civil and structural packages. • Support tender evaluations and technical bid assessments. • Review contractor methodologies and construction plans. • Provide technical inputs for major packages, including: • Reactor Building Construction • Containment Construction • Cooling Water Systems • Intake and Outfall Structures • Piling and Foundation Works • Structural Steel Systems • Support supplier qualification and technical audits. • Construction Engineering & Field Support • Provide engineering support during construction. • Resolve site technical queries and field design issues. • Review non-conformances and technical deviations. • Ensure compliance with approved drawings and specifications. • Support modular construction and advanced construction methodologies where applicable. • Lead constructability and value engineering reviews. • Ensuring QA compliance for both design and site works. • Regulatory and Licensing Support • Support preparation of civil engineering submissions for: • Site Approval • Construction Consent • Safety Reviews • Commissioning Approvals • Interface with AERB and technical review organizations on civil engineering matters. • Support safety case development related to civil and structural design. • Ensure full traceability of engineering decisions and regulatory commitments. • Design Authority and Engineering Governance • Support implementation of Design Authority processes for civil engineering. • Maintain configuration control for all safety-related structures. • Review and approve design changes affecting safety, constructability, operability, or licensing. • Ensure engineering records and design basis documents are maintained throughout the project lifecycle. • Capability Building & Engineering Excellence • Develop internal expertise in nuclear civil engineering. • Establish design standards, engineering procedures, and review mechanisms. • Mentor junior engineers and develop succession pipelines. • Capture lessons learned from Indian and international nuclear projects. • Drive adoption of: • BIM/Digital Engineering • Digital Twins • Advanced Construction Technologies • Modular Construction Techniques Qualifications Qualifications & Experience • 15+ years of experience in nuclear power plant design and construction. • Minimum 8–10 years in major civil engineering leadership roles in nuclear power plant construction. Exposure to nuclear plant siting, seismic qualification, safety-class structural design in nuclear projects would be highly preferred.
