As one of the largest private cloud platforms in the industry, we operate and manage hundreds of Kubernetes clusters across diverse environments, comprising millions of compute instances.** **Our team is responsible for the full lifecycle management of these clusters—including provisioning, OS and Kubernetes upgrades, technical refreshes, and decommissioning. We also customize the Linux operating system for our Kubernetes platform, enhancing the kernel to meet eBay’s rigorous scalability, reliability, and security requirements.** **We are seeking a highly motivated and experienced Cloud Engineering Manager to lead a team responsible for the development, operations, and governance of one of the largest private clouds in the world based on Kubernetes.** **You will guide and mentor a team of hardworking engineers in building and maintaining robust, secure, and scalable cloud offerings that empower eBay’s core product engineering organizations and initiatives.** **We require a unique blend of cloud expertise, software development management experience, and strong leadership skills. The ideal candidate will have a deep understanding of cloud-native technologies, experience managing and developing software engineering teams, passion for building scalable and reliable systems, and excellent people skills to cultivate a high-performing team.** **What You Will Accomplish** **Leadership & People Management** **Lead and mentor a team of cloud engineers, fostering a strong culture of collaboration and continuous improvement.** **Conduct regular one-on-one meetings with team members, providing guidance, feedback, and support for their career development.** **Lead performance evaluations and provide constructive feedback and actively participate in all phases of growing the engineering organization through recruiting, team** **building, etc.** **Cloud Engineering, Operations & Governance** **Lead and coordinate engineering activities to successfully plan, communicate, and deliver on product features on time while designing for quality, observability, and** **scalability.** **Ensure full software lifecycle instrumentation from requirement ideation to software development to deployment.** **Drive the adoption of cloud-native technologies and standard processes, such as containerization, service mesh, microservices, etc.** **Collaboration With Internal Partners And Team Members** **Cloud engineering and operations teams, product, and PMO on engineering resource allocation and project schedules in accordance with our strategic organizational priorities.** **Cloud SRE team to champion automation to enhance efficiency and reliability.** **Operations teams on maintaining a highly available cloud infrastructure to ensure eBay’s products and services are available to our customers.** **Fleet management team on capacity planning, resource allocation, and cost optimization for the private cloud.** **Information security teams to ensure integrity and compliance of the cloud infrastructure by implementing appropriate security controls and monitoring.** **Required Qualifications** - Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or related field. - 10+ years of software engineering experience, including 3+ years of people management or technical leadership. - Excellent communication and collaboration skills, with the ability to bridge technical and design perspectives. - Strong technical background with a deep understanding of cloud-native architectures and technologies (e.g., Kubernetes, containerization, service mesh, microservices). - Demonstrated knowledge of DevOps and Site Reliability Engineering (SRE) principles and practices. - Experience with software development, networking, security, and storage technologies in a large-scale cloud environment. - Experience working in large, distributed global teams and supporting medium or large-scale technology organizations with multiple internal partners. **Nice-to-Have Skills** - Direct experience with customizing and maintaining Linux operating system kernels for large-scale, high-performance computing platforms. - Experience in capacity planning, resource allocation, and cost optimization for large private cloud infrastructure. - Knowledge of software development, networking, security, and storage technologies in a cloud environment and proven understanding of cloud-native architectures, microservices, -
