**Job Title:** Technical Lead & Owner - Java Full Stack with Backend expertise **Department** : CIO Office **About Business line/Function:** The factories team is building an **IT Decision Intelligence platform** to transform applications managing IT processes by automating KPI collection (0-touch), enabling straight-through processing, and delivering governed, high-fidelity insights for management and governance decisions. **Position Purpose** The **Backend Engineer** will serve as the **technical anchor** , owning system design, core services, large-scale data pipelines, and system integrations across diverse IT sources. Data quality is foundational, and the engineer will ensure every pipeline meets the platform’s exacting standards. Standards are non-negotiable: **Cloud-native architecture, reliability, security, and scalability** are core requirements from day one. We’re looking for a senior engineer with **proven experience** who can deliver at this level and **set the standard** for the team. The platform responsibilities will evolve to address multiple use-cases across the IT ecosystem and the engineer will be expected to lead this change. **Responsibilities** Direct Responsibilities - Design and develop backend services / microservices using Java and Spring Boot - Build and operate Spring Batch jobs for large-scale data ingestion and processing - Recommend the most suitable technology (e.g. Python) and introduce new technologies that align with the platform's vision and strategic objectives. - Design, optimize, and maintain SQL schemas and queries. - Batch optimization and performance tuning - Integrate with external systems and APIs including security and IT asset platforms - Ensure scalability, reliability, and security of backend services - Own and contribute to end-to-end test excellence – Automated Unit testing, integration testing, performance testing. - Own technical architecture and design decisions around system design, event-driven architecture, caching strategies, etc. Contributing Responsibilities - Implement / Improve DevSecOps Pipeline for production delivery. - Interact with functional and technical architects to design enterprise solutions. - Experience with front-end tech preferably Angular to write code for it, with a focus on integrating front-end with REST APIs. - AI-Assisted Development: Use AI tools of the organization - Developer Assistants, code optimizers to improve code quality, test coverage, reduce boilerplate, and enforce best practices—while critically evaluating AI-generated outputs for correctness and security. - Conduct / Drive workshops and technical forums within the department on tech trends. **Technical & Behavioral Competencies** - Autonomy & Ownership: Ability to work autonomously and take end-to-end ownership of backend components - Industry Expertise: Experience in large-scale regulated enterprise environments (banking/financial services preferred) - Collaboration & Communication: Strong collaborative and communication skills to work in a global team **Specific Qualifications** **Skills Referential** **(** **Required knowledge, skills and abilities)** **Technical Skills** - Strong experience with Java (JDK 17+) - Solid expertise in Spring Boot, Spring Batch, SPEL (Spring Expression Language), Spring Security. - Strong SQL skills - Experience with relational databases, ideally Oracle - REST API design and integration experience - Git, CI/CD and testing practices, Ansible. - Familiarity with modern design patterns such as Event Driven architectures, Smart Gateway, Orchestrator vs Choreography, Side Car Pattern, BFF, Circuit Breaker, Service Mesh, Hexagonal Architecture, CQRS, etc. **Behavioral Skills** - Self-motivated and passionate about delivering exceptional results, with a strong desire to take ownership of complex technical problems and drive them to resolution. - Platform Thinking & Ownership: Ability to think holistically about the platform, considering the interactions and dependencies between different components and systems. **Nice To Have** - Orchestration framework like Apache Airflow - Python experience - Building data pipelines and data governance. **Education Level:** Bachelor of Engineering or equivalent. **Location:** Mumbai **About BNP Paribas Group** BNP Paribas is the European Union’s leading bank and key player in international banking.
