**Who we are looking for** We are seeking a highly skilled **Automation Engineer** to join the State Street Middleware Application Infrastructure Team. Our team manages and supports a wide range of Web and Application server technologies including WebSphere, JBoss, IIS, and other middleware platforms (MFT, Kafka, MQ, Autosys, etc) across the Bank. This role focuses on building **Python and UNIX shell–based automation**, enabling **self‑service capabilities**, and improving **platform and infrastructure operations** through automation‑first solutions. The ideal candidate has a strong operational mindset, hands‑on scripting expertise, and a passion for reducing manual effort, improving reliability, and driving continuous improvement. Exposure to **AI‑assisted development or intelligent automation** is a strong plus. **What you will be responsible for** As an Automation Engineer, you will be responsible for: - Designing, developing, and supporting automation solutions for Middleware and Web Application platforms - Building and maintaining Python and UNIX shell scripts for BAU automation, health checks, monitoring, validation, and remediation - Enabling self‑service automation for application and operations teams using APIs and workflow‑based solutions - Automating platform and infrastructure operations, including provisioning, configuration, patching, upgrades, and clean‑up activities - Supporting incident, problem, and change management through automation‑first approaches - Working closely with Middleware, SRE, and Infrastructure teams to standardize and automate operational processes - Maintaining automation code in version control and following secure, scalable development practices - Identifying opportunities to improve platform resilience, performance, and operational efficiency through automation - Skilled in Jira, ServiceNow, and Confluence for managing defects and user stories **What we value** These skills & experience will help you succeed in this role **Required to have:** - Strong hands‑on experience with Python - Strong experience with UNIX / Linux shell scripting - Solid understanding of platform or infrastructure operations (Middleware & Linux fundamentals) - Experience building operational automation for production environments - Knowledge of REST APIs and integrating automation with enterprise tools - Strong troubleshooting, debugging, and problem‑solving skills - Experience working in production support or platform engineering environments **Preferred to have:** - Experience with Middleware technologies - Exposure to CI/CD pipelines, automation frameworks, or workflow orchestration tools - Experience or interest in AI / AI‑assisted automation (LLMs, AI agents, intelligent workflows) - Integration with ServiceNow and CyberArk - Exposure to observability tools such as Dynatrace, Splunk, or similar - Cloud platform exposure (Azure or AWS) is a plus **Education & Preferred Qualifications** - 8+ year of IT experience in Platform Engineering Automation - Bachelor in Computer Science or equivalent **Work Schedule** - No Hybrid Working.
