Software Development Engineer – II Frontend Platform (Orion) Urban Company | Gurugram About the Company Urban Company is a technology platform offering customers a variety of services at home. Customers use our platform to book services such as beauty treatments, haircuts, massage therapy, cleaning, plumbing, carpentry, appliance repair, painting, etc., all delivered in the comfort of their home and at a time of their choosing. We promise our customers a high-quality, standardised, and reliable service experience. To fulfil this promise, we work closely with our hand-picked service partners, enabling them with technology, training, products, tools, financing, insurance, and brand, helping them succeed and deliver on this promise. Urban Company started as UrbanClap in November 2014, when its founders, Abhiraj, Raghav, and Varun, realized that the home services industry was predominantly unorganized, fragmented, and offline. Customers found it challenging to avail quality services conveniently, and service professionals were struggling to make ends meet, having to rely upon several middlemen, contractors, and local aggregators. The founders felt that the industry was ripe for disruption, and launched Urban Company, with three key principles in mind - 1. Technology first: Bring innovation and technology to an age-old industry About the Role & Team Orion is Urban Company’s in-house frontend platform : the framework, component system, rendering layer and release infrastructure that every customer and provider facing entity at Urban Company is built on. It is not a library we adopted; we designed and own all of it. Orion is deliberately cross-stack. It spans React Native as the base rendering engine for our customer and partner apps, a micro-frontend architecture, and native Android and iOS layers underneath, with a single component system across all of them. At UC we follow a micro frontend architecture, every product flow: a booking flow, a category page, a checkout step is built as an independently developed and independently deployed micro-frontend that renders inside the Orion shell, on both app and web. A team ships its changes without coordinating a release with anyone else. Our pod owns that architecture: the shell and its contracts, routing and lifecycle, isolation between micro-frontends, shared state and navigation across them. As the number of micro-frontends grows, holding that boundary clean while keeping the app feeling like one product is among the hardest problems on the platform. Orion’s server-driven UI lets product teams change what a screen shows without shipping an app release, and its own in-house over-the-air pipeline delivers JavaScript updates straight to users’ devices. Every product engineer at Urban Company builds on Orion, which means a change to the platform is felt across the entire company. Our pod sits inside the Orion team , and owns the following charters built on top of it: • Merchant Platform : Letting integrating partners sell their services from inside Urban Company. Their experience runs in a container inside our app session, integrated SSO auth, deeplinks, order lifecycle, discovery touchpoints, and their orders showing up alongside ours in the customer's bookings. The bar is performance good enough that our users cannot tell where our product ends and theirs begins while keeping in mind the security and stability repercussions. • Third-Party Integrations : Taking Urban Company services into other companies' apps. Their users book us without ever leaving their product, server-to-server booking flows, request journeys, catalogue mapping, idempotency, and reconciliation when the other side goes quiet. • Release & Over-the-Air Delivery : OTA bundles for customer and partner apps, Android, iOS and web release pipelines, canary rollouts. • Platform itself: Because the pod is part of the Orion team, whoever joins also owns and contributes to Orion itself , the shared components, the rendering and navigation layer, the release pipeline. You will not just consume the platform, you will improve it, and what you build there is used by every product team at Urban Company and has a direct impact on both our customer and provider app and website ecosystem. This is a genuinely cross-stack charter. A single feature here routinely spans a React Native container, a Node.js service and an event pipeline, which is why we hire strong frontend engineers and grow them across the full stack rather than keeping them on one side of it. What You’ll Do • Build the Merchant Platform: Take partner brands live inside the Urban Company app, session handoff, order lifecycle, discovery surfaces. While making it secure and fast enough that our users cannot tell where our product ends and theirs begins. • Take Urban Company Into Other Apps : Design and ship server-to-server booking flows that let another company's users book us from inside their product. From the first partner call through contract design, idempotency, rollout and reconciliation. • Strengthen Orion Itself: Improve the shared components, rendering layer and release infrastructure that every Urban Company product team depends on. • Own and Scale the Micro-frontend Architecture : Evolve the shell, contracts and lifecycle that every product team's surface plugs into, and keep the experience feeling like one app as the number of micro-frontends grows. • Grow Across the Stack: Start in React Native, then take on the Node.js services behind your own features.
