We are seeking an experienced Senior Engineering Manager of Engineering to lead a mid-sized engineering organization responsible for RingCentral’s cloud-based Phone application capabilities. This leader will manage a team of architects, software engineers, and automation engineers building scalable, resilient, and high-quality mobile and web experiences in the real-time communications domain. The ideal candidate brings deep expertise in telecom and VoIP technologies, strong engineering leadership, operational excellence, and a proven ability to drive execution across globally distributed teams. The role requires a hands-on engineering leader who can balance strategic thinking with execution, foster innovation, raise engineering maturity, and build a culture of ownership, accountability, and continuous improvement. Primary Responsibilities: • Lead and grow a high-performing engineering organization focused on Phone application development across mobile and web platforms. • Quickly build trust within an existing organization, assess strengths and gaps, and evolve team capabilities, structure, and engineering culture. • Drive architectural direction and technology decisions across VoIP, SIP, RTP, WebRTC, signaling, and media handling systems. • Champion AI-assisted engineering practices to improve developer productivity, software quality, and delivery velocity. • Lead complex cross-functional and cross-geo initiatives with predictable execution and strong stakeholder alignment. • Partner with Product Management, UX, Platform, and Architecture teams to define priorities and execution strategy. • Balance feature delivery with long-term platform scalability, reliability, maintainability, and technical debt reduction. • Establish strong engineering practices across architecture, code quality, testing, observability, release management, and operational excellence. • Drive high availability and reliability standards, including five-nines (99.999%) SLA expectations. • Use metrics and data-driven insights to improve engineering efficiency, software quality, and operational performance. • Proactively identify and remove technical, organizational, and execution roadblocks. • Build a culture of continuous learning, accountability, mentorship, and engineering excellence. • Develop future engineering leaders through coaching, feedback, and career development. • Role model RingCentral’s engineering culture and customer-first mindset. Minimum Qualifications: • BS/MS in Computer Science, Engineering, or equivalent practical experience. • 15+ years of experience building scalable, reliable enterprise software systems, including telecom, UCaaS, CCaaS, or real-time communications platforms. • 7+ years of engineering leadership experience managing high-performing software engineering teams. • Strong hands-on experience in mobile and/or web application development, including iOS and Android platforms. • Deep expertise in SIP, RTP, WebRTC, VoIP, media processing, and real-time communication technologies. • Strong software engineering foundation with technologies such as JavaScript/TypeScript, React, C++, and cloud-native platforms. • Proven experience building and operating large-scale distributed systems with strong reliability and operational maturity. • Strong advocate of AI-enabled engineering practices with practical experience using AI tools in software development workflows. • Solid understanding of Agile, CI/CD, DevOps, and 24x7 SaaS production operations. • Ability to operate hands-on when required, including architecture reviews and technical problem solving. • Excellent communication and stakeholder management skills across global teams and leadership levels. • Ability to thrive in a fast-paced and rapidly evolving technology environment. Will be a plus • Experience with real-time media processing, codec optimization, SRTP/DTLS, or low-latency communication systems. • Experience building and operating cloud-native applications on AWS. • Experience modernizing and scaling existing engineering organizations, including technical debt reduction and engineering transformation initiatives.
