The Big Data Fabric Services — BDFS team is part of SAP HANA & Persistency and enables SAP Lines of Business and customers to consume scalable, secure, and reliable cloud storage and platform services. We are looking for a Senior Platform Engineer with a strong architecture mindset, hands-on cloud engineering experience, and deep backend/platform engineering skills to contribute to the Object Store area. This is an architecture-focused role. The candidate is expected to drive technical design, contribute to architecture decisions, build scalable cloud-native platform services, mentor developers, and support Product Owners and Architects in technical discussions. THE PRODUCT The SAP Object Store service on SAP Business Technology Platform — SAP BTP enables applications to store and manage objects, including creation, upload, download, and deletion. The service works with IaaS layers such as Azure Blob Storage, Amazon Web Services, and Google Cloud Platform. SAP Object Store helps simplify storage and retrieval of large files and BLOBs from applications. It supports storage across cloud providers such as AWS, Azure, and Google Cloud, and provides secure, highly available, and scalable object storage capabilities. As part of SAP HANA & Persistency / Big Data Fabric Services, the Object Store team contributes to scalable and cost-effective storage services, cloud platform integrations, service lifecycle flows, reliability, and secure multi-tenant operations. Public product reference: SAP BTP Object Store **What You’ll Build** As a Senior Platform Engineer, you will be responsible for architecture, design, coding, testing, troubleshooting, and quality assurance activities in a development team. **In Your Day-to-day Work, Your Tasks Will Include** - Drive architecture and technical design for Object Store platform services. - Design scalable, reliable, secure, and maintainable cloud-native backend services. - Own complex technical topics from analysis and design to implementation and delivery. - Contribute to platform architecture decisions around service lifecycle, provisioning, credentials, configuration, resiliency, observability, and operational readiness. - Develop backend services and platform components using Java and related technologies. - Work on distributed applications and services running in cloud/container environments. - Evaluate technical options, identify trade-offs, and recommend practical architecture solutions. - Contribute to secure-by-design architecture and platform engineering practices. - Ensure platform services follow security, reliability, scalability, and operational best practices. - Contribute to architecture discussions around authentication, authorization, secrets management, encryption, and secure multi-tenant design. - Support observability, monitoring, logging, alerting, and operational readiness practices for platform services. - Build PoCs and validate technical approaches for complex platform topics. - Analyze, troubleshoot, and resolve complex production and development issues. - Review code, design documents, and implementation approaches to ensure high engineering quality. - Mentor and guide junior developers and help improve technical maturity within the team. - Support Product team and Architects in technical discussions and planning. - Collaborate with cross-functional teams and stakeholders across locations. - Work in an agile team that uses the Scrum framework to self-organize and work towards development goals. - Contribute to engineering practices around clean code, CI/CD, testing, automation, security, observability, and operational excellence. - Guide responsible adoption of AI-assisted engineering practices where relevant to improve architecture analysis, development efficiency, quality, documentation, and operational excellence. **What You Bring** Required Skills - Bachelor’s or master's degree in computer science, Systems Analysis, Information Technology, Mathematics, Physics, Engineering, or related technical fields. - 10+ years of relevant experience in backend/platform engineering, distributed systems, or cloud-native platform development, with proven experience in architecture/design responsibilities. - Strong hands-on experience in backend/platform engineering. - Excellent programming skills, preferably with Java. - Strong understanding of algorithms, data structures, space complexity, and run-time complexity. - Strong understanding of object-oriented design, design patterns, clean code, and software architecture principles. - Experience designing and building cloud-native distributed systems. - Experience with Kubernetes, containerized applications, and cloud deployment models. - Experience with at least one hyperscaler or cloud ecosystem such as AWS, Azure, or Google Cloud Platform. - Strong understanding of REST APIs, service integrations, distributed application design, and failure handling. - Ability to define and evaluate architecture of trade-offs around scalability, availability, reliability, maintainability, security, and cost. - Ability to troubleshoot complex software and platform issues using technical and product knowledge. - Experience with CI/CD, code review, test-driven development, and modern software delivery practices. - Knowledge of software quality assurance and test methodologies, including unit testing, integration testing, and automation. - Strong
