Expedia Group is seeking a motivated, highly driven and hardworking Software Engineer for the eCommerce Identity platform team in a highly collaborative, fast-paced, high energy environment. The Identity team is building the next-generation technology platforms and services to recognize users and handle digital identities and accounts across Expedia. The Platform Identity team at Expedia is at an exciting juncture and poised to transform how we handle one of the core assets of Expedia – Users into the next generation of technology! Migrating millions of users as well as a diverse and large number of clients to the cloud, scaling up for an ever-increasing identified user base, introducing cutting edge security and privacy measures, providing a user experience that encourages more user registrations are just a few challenges that you would participate. We are building the platform for authenticating, session management, profile management, risk mitigation, and analytics for driving intelligence from customer interaction patterns. You will use agile methodologies to plan ahead, understand and communicate priorities clearly and work closely with product owners, engineers and architects. As an SDE III, your role will be to work both independently and as a team member to creatively develop software that scales to the largest travel platform on the internet. EXPERIENCE 5+ years with a Bachelor's degree, or 3+ years with a Master's degree. ## EDUCATION Bachelor's or Master's in a technical field, or equivalent experience. ## BACKGROUND - Software development in at least one programming language - Built and maintained multiple data pipelines and/or data products in production (bug fixing, troubleshooting, monitoring) - ## REQUIRED TECHNICAL SKILLS ### Languages and Development - Strong proficiency in at least one of: Java, Python, Scala - Experience with data processing frameworks such as Apache Spark, PySpark, or Apache Flink - Identifies strengths and weaknesses among languages for specific use cases - Writes clean, maintainable, optimized, and modular code with good naming conventions - Understands software frameworks and leverages them to write simpler code ### API Design and Integration - Experience designing and building RESTful APIs following industry best practices - Hands-on experience with GraphQL — schema design, queries, mutations, subscriptions, and resolvers - Experience with API documentation standards such as OpenAPI/Swagger - Understands API versioning, backward compatibility, and deprecation strategies - Experience consuming and integrating with third-party APIs and internal platform APIs - Familiarity with API gateway patterns, rate limiting, and authentication flows (OAuth 2.0, JWT, API keys) - Creates APIs to be consumed across the business unit with a focus on developer experience and reliability ### Cloud Platforms - Hands-on experience with at least one major cloud provider - AWS: S3, EMR, Kinesis, Glue, Redshift, Lambda, API Gateway - Understands cloud-native data services and when to apply them ### Architecture and Systems - Understands and designs moderately complex distributed systems - Understands how projects and teams interact with each other - Applies organizational technology patterns effectively and recommends alternatives when needed - Understands the relationship between applications, databases, and technology platforms - Familiar with microservices architecture and service mesh patterns (e.g., Istio, Envoy) ### Testing, Monitoring, and Operations - Tests and monitors code at the project level using tools such as Datadog, Splunk, or Grafana - Experience with API testing tools such as Postman, Insomnia, or automated contract testing - Experience with unit and integration testing frameworks (JUnit, pytest, Scalatest) - Debugs, tests, and fixes issues within established SLAs - Designs software that is easily testable and observable ### DevOps and Collaboration - Proficient with Git and source control workflows - Experience with CI/CD pipelines using tools such as Jenkins, GitHub Actions, or Spinnaker - Familiar with containerization technologies such as Docker and Kubernetes ### Business Acumen - Understands how team goals fit a business need - Identifies business problems at the project level and provides solutions - ## GOOD TO HAVE \\*Specialist data engineering skills.
