Job Description Job Role: Senior Manager / Manager, Legal (Commercial Legal | India & South Asia): Team Summary: The Visa India & South Asia Legal team manages Visa’s legal affairs across the India & South Asia region. The team provides advice and support to ensure business objectives are achieved while protecting Visa’s brand and reputation and minimizing legal, regulatory and commercial risk. The team partners closely with business functions across Visa’s payments, technology and value-added services businesses and operates in a fast-moving, highly regulated and innovation-driven environment. What a Senior Manager / Manager, Legal (Commercial Legal) does at Visa: This position is for a seasoned business/commercial lawyer to join Visa’s growing legal team and provide primary legal support for Visa’s core Commercial Legal portfolio across India & South Asia. The role will support Visa’s issuer, acquirer, merchant, fintech, and strategic partnership businesses and will be responsible for a broad range of commercial legal matters, including incentive arrangements, client agreements, sponsorship agreements, partnership transactions, marketing arrangements, strategic initiatives and product-related agreements. The position will be based in Mumbai and will report to the Senior Managing Counsel, India & South Asia. We are looking for a strong commercial lawyer with excellent communication and analytical skills who is self-motivated, able to work proactively and independently with minimal supervision, and capable of partnering effectively with business teams and support functions across all levels of the organization. In this role, you are expected to: • Provide legal advice and support to business teams regarding commercial transactions, strategic initiatives and client-facing matters. • Serve as a trusted strategic advisor to the India & South Asia business teams. • Draft, negotiate and drive to completion complex commercial, marketing, sponsorship, technology and strategic partnership agreements. • Advise business stakeholders on commercial structures, contractual risk allocation, liability positions, indemnity frameworks and negotiation strategy. • Support issuer, acquirer, merchant, fintech, and strategic partner relationships across the region. • Work closely with business functions to enable growth while appropriately managing legal and regulatory risk. • Support new business initiatives, market expansion projects and product launches. • Partner with regional and global legal teams on complex cross-border transactions and strategic matters. • Contribute to contracting process improvements, standardization initiatives and template development. • Perform such other responsibilities as may be assigned by the India & South Asia Legal leadership team. The position helps enable business growth, supports significant revenue-generating initiatives and protects Visa through effective contract management, negotiation and risk assessment. Visa requires at least 3 days in office, expectations of these days will be confirmed by your Hiring Manager. Qualifications What you will need: • Qualified to practice law in India. • Approximately 8–14 years of post-qualification legal experience for a Senior Manager role, or 5–8 years of post-qualification legal experience for a Manager role. • Strong corporate and commercial law experience gained at a top-tier law firm or multinational organization. • Demonstrated experience negotiating and advising on complex commercial transactions. • Excellent contract drafting, negotiation and analytical skills. • Strong business judgment and commercial acumen. • Ability to build credibility and influence stakeholders at all levels of the organization. • Ability to manage multiple priorities under significant time pressure. • Strong communication, stakeholder management and problem-solving skills. • Interest in technology, fintech and the payments industry. What will also help: • Experience supporting financial services, payments, technology or regulated businesses. • Familiarity with competition law, privacy, anti-bribery and intellectual property issues. • Experience managing cross-border transactions and regional business stakeholders. • International exposure or experience supporting multiple jurisdictions.
