Job description

Job Summary We are seeking a versatile Software Engineer to join our pharmaceutical research development team as an individual contributor. This role involves a "rare combination" of skills, bridging the gap between sophisticated data orchestration and specialized desktop application development. You will be responsible for the end-to-end lifecycle of pharmaceutical data from acquisition and cleansing to analysis and the delivery of commercial results through custom-built Excel tools. Key Responsibilities - 3 - 5 years' experience in development and deployment of various client facing solutions including data and desktop applications. - Ability to understand business concepts and integrate them with applications on a functional level. - Understand business requirements and translate them into an application. - Design, build, and maintain efficient, reusable, and reliable code. - Help maintain code quality, organization, and automatization. - Data Orchestration Engineering: Own and manage pharmaceutical data pipelines. You will take raw data sources (JSON, XML, Zipped files, etc.) and write the necessary Python steps and SQL checks to normalize and validate them for analytical use. - Desktop Application Development: Maintain and enhance specialized C# Excel desktop applications. This involves working with COM add-ins and Excel DNA to interact directly with the Excel model. - Pipeline Management: Use Dagster as the primary orchestration software via its Python API and implement declarative pipelines using DBT. - Automated Tooling: Develop tools to automate repetitive tasks and minimize manual data handling, with future opportunities to integrate these workflows into AI platforms. - Deployment Infrastructure: Collaborate with the backend deployment team to push infrastructure as-code via Terraform from GitHub. Core Competencies 1. Data Backend (Python/SQL): Python: Proficient in Python for backend development, specifically using Fast API. 2. Orchestration: Experience with Dagster (or similar Python-based orchestration tools). 3. SQL Data Design: Strong ability to write raw SQL for migrations and a deep understanding of data design (denormalizing raw sources for analytics) rather than just database administration. 4. Pipelines: Experience with DBT for building declarative data pipelines. 5. UI Frameworks: Proficiency in WinForms is essential for creating presentation panes and forms within the Excel environment (WPF is not compatible with current requirements). 6. DevOps Frontend (Preferred): Infrastructure: Familiarity with Terraform, Kubernetes, and Docker. 7. Frontend: Knowledge of JavaScript, specifically the Vue framework, to build interfaces that allow researchers to interact with data without touching the raw backend.
