**About The Team** As part of Walmart’s Stride Transportation Platform team, you will work with some of the brightest engineers and architects to solve large-scale, mission-critical transportation challenges that power Walmart’s global supply chain. We are building next-generation Transportation Planning, Optimization, Execution, and Yard Automation platforms that support Walmart’s end-to-end supply chain network. Our systems optimize freight movement across suppliers, distribution centers, fulfillment centers, and stores—moving millions of shipments every year. By improving transportation forecasting, routing, carrier optimization, and capacity planning, we: Reduce transportation costs Improve on-time delivery Lower carbon emissions Ensure products reach customers and stores reliably The scale—millions of routes, thousands of facilities, real-time constraints, and dynamic conditions—makes this one of the most complex and impactful logistics engineering problems in the world. If you’re excited about building distributed systems with real-world impact at massive scale, we’d love to talk to you. What You’ll Do As a Staff Software Engineer, you’ll have the opportunity to Create simple, modular, extensible and functional design in adherence to the requirements for a product/solution within a domain. Develop complex, scalable and fault tolerant software systems to cater to the given requirements using springboot, java & Cosmos / Azure SQL / Cassandra. Work with the Product team to understand Customer requirements and analyze the gaps between existing architecture and customer requirements. Drive production deployments using platform's automated CI and deployment tools. Provide support as SME for the functional domain. Analyze system performance impacting the complete product for non-functional requirements like reliability, operability, performance efficiency and security. Create detailed design using mock screens, pseudo codes and detailed functional logic of the modules for an entire product. Be the technical leader for the team & not only guiding but actively supporting team as needed and takes end to end ownership of design and architecture of a large-scale product/module. Ensure products are well designed, well-built and have flexible architectures to meet business needs and future extensibility. Triaging and Troubleshooting including regression testing, root cause analysis (RCA), root cause corrective action (RCCA) To guide team members in RCA and RCCA to identify the origins of and prevent defects/performance gaps. Good active listener, being able to hear and include propositions from other engineers in the final solution. Perform code reviews, design reviews, guide the test team with the user scenarios Work on optimizing the products on Cloud Infra, cost, performance etc. Partner with your senior and junior teammates throughout the software development lifecycle to cultivate a reciprocal learning environment from development to debugging and operational excellence. What You’ll bring 10+ years of experience in the design and development of highly scalable distributed applications and platforms. Experience building a 'Code, Deploy, run' pipeline using DevOps best practices by leveraging the best available CI/CD tools. Strong computer science fundamentals: data structures, algorithms, and design patterns. Own Tech Debt / Tech Modernization - Ability to balance the long-term "big picture" and short-term implications of design decisions. Having proficiency in Java / J2EE, Microservices, and Cloud Native Architecture. Hands-on experience in Microservices, and RESTful web services development in Java SpringBoot, Spring Kafka or equivalent framework). Good knowledge of messaging systems: Kafka / RabbitMQ. In-depth knowledge of Cloud Native Architecture, Microservice Architecture, and related stacks (Service Registry, ELK / Splunk, service registry, VMs, etc.) and container technologies (Docker, Kubernetes, etc.) Knowledge of at least one of Azure/Google Cloud Platforms. Self-starter with the ability to multitask across several priority areas in the face of fuzzy situations. Demonstrated end-to-end ownership for the development and design of at least one cloud-based project. Strong hands-on development skills to prototype technical solutions. Strong desire to drive change, and ability to adapt to change quickly. Proficient in new and emerging technologies. Exceptional communication and interpersonal skills - including negotiation, facilitation, and consensus-building skills; ability to influence and persuade, without direct control. Focus on reusability, frameworks, patterns, and configuration tools for faster development. Practitioner of Agile (Scrum) methodology AI / LLM Experience (Better to have) Experience working with Large Language Model (LLM) APIs, such as: Solid understanding of core AI and LLM concepts, including: Exposure to real-world, production grade agentic systems. Familiarity with LLMs serving optimizations Proven ability to achieve results in a fast paced, highly collaborative, dynamic work environment **About Walmart Global Tech** Imagine working in an environment where one line of code can make life easier for hundreds of millions of people.
