Department: Neuro Anaesthesia & Critical Care Designation: Attending Consultant Reporting To: HOD / Unit Head Anaesthesia & Critical Care Job Summary The Attending Consultant – Neuro Anaesthesia & Critical Care will be responsible for providing comprehensive anaesthesia and critical care services to patients undergoing neurosurgical and neuro-interventional procedures, as well as managing critically ill neurological and neurosurgical patients in the ICU. Key Responsibilities • Provide comprehensive neuro-anaesthesia services for elective and emergency neurosurgical procedures, including cranial, spinal and neurovascular surgeries. • Provide anaesthesia support for neuro-interventional procedures as required. • Conduct detailed pre-anaesthesia evaluation, risk assessment and patient optimisation. • Formulate and execute appropriate anaesthesia plans based on the patient's neurological status, comorbidities and surgical requirements. • Manage complex intraoperative cases with emphasis on cerebral perfusion, intracranial pressure, haemodynamic stability and neuroprotection. • Provide post-operative management of neurosurgical patients, including those requiring ventilatory and intensive care support. • Independently manage critically ill patients in Neuro ICU / Critical Care, including patients with traumatic brain injury, stroke, intracranial haemorrhage, post-operative neurosurgical conditions and other neurological emergencies. • Manage mechanical ventilation, haemodynamic support, sedation, analgesia, fluid and electrolyte management and other critical care interventions. • Participate in code blue, emergency airway management and resuscitation as required. • Work closely with Neurosurgery, Neurology, Emergency Medicine and other multidisciplinary teams to ensure coordinated patient care. • Monitor and manage neurological deterioration and provide timely intervention in critically ill patients. • Ensure appropriate documentation of patient assessment, treatment plans, procedures and clinical outcomes. • Follow hospital protocols, infection-control practices, patient-safety standards and evidence-based clinical guidelines. • Participate in clinical audits, quality improvement initiatives, academic activities and departmental meetings. • Guide and mentor Senior Residents and junior members of the anaesthesia and critical care team. • Participate in on-call and emergency duties as per departmental requirements. Qualifications & Experience • MD/DNB in Anaesthesiology from a recognised institution. • Fellowship / qualification in Neuro Anaesthesia and/or Critical Care preferred. • Relevant experience in neuro-anaesthesia and management of critically ill neurological/neurosurgical patients. • Experience in Neuro ICU / Critical Care is preferred. • Ability to independently manage complex anaesthesia and critical care cases. Key Competencies • Strong expertise in Neuro Anaesthesia and Neuro Critical Care. • Sound knowledge of neurophysiology, cerebral haemodynamics and neuro-monitoring. • Proficiency in airway management, mechanical ventilation and critical care procedures. • Strong clinical judgement and emergency decision-making skills. • Effective multidisciplinary communication and teamwork. • Commitment to patient safety, clinical excellence and ethical medical practice.
