Job Description Role: Control System Subject Matter Expert (SME) - CPG Manufacturing, MES and IT/OT Integration Required Technical Skill Set: Industrial Control Systems, PLC, SCADA/HMI, DCS, OPC/OPC UA, Industrial Networks, MES Integration, Historian, Batch/Process Automation, Packaging Automation, OT Cybersecurity and Manufacturing Production Support Desired Experience Range: 10-15 Years Location of Requirement: Offshore - India (Chennai / Bengaluru / Hyderabad / Pune) Must-Have\\\\ • 10+ years of hands-on experience in industrial automation and control systems within manufacturing, preferably Consumer Packaged Goods (CPG/FMCG), food and beverage, bottling, packaging or process manufacturing. • Deep expertise in PLC, SCADA/HMI and industrial control platforms such as Rockwell Automation/Allen-Bradley, Siemens, Schneider Electric, AVEVA/Wonderware, GE Digital, Emerson or equivalent technologies. • Proven MES and IT/OT integration experience using OPC DA/UA, Kepware or equivalent OPC servers, industrial gateways, historians, middleware, APIs, message brokers and database interfaces. • Strong understanding of control-system architecture, PLC programming, tag structures, alarms, interlocks, recipes, batch/sequence control, equipment states, line controls and production data acquisition. • Experience leading design, troubleshooting, commissioning, site deployment and production support for critical processing and packaging lines, with strong customer and plant-stakeholder communication. Good-to-Have • Knowledge of GE Proficy Plant Applications, AVEVA MES, Rockwell FactoryTalk Production Centre, SAP MII/DMC or equivalent MES platforms. • Understanding of ISA-95/Purdue Model, ISA-88 batch concepts, PackML, industrial protocols including EtherNet/IP, PROFINET, Modbus TCP, Profibus and MQTT, and time synchronization across OT systems. • Experience with OT cybersecurity controls such as network segmentation, firewalls/DMZ, secure remote access, asset inventory, patching, backup/restore, antivirus/application allowlisting and IEC 62443/NIST-aligned practices. • Exposure to cloud/edge integration, IIoT platforms, data contextualization, predictive maintenance, OEE analytics and DevOps/version-control practices for automation assets. • Relevant OEM, ISA, ITIL, cybersecurity or functional-safety certification. Responsibility of / Expectations from the Role • Act as the technical authority for control-system architecture, standards, design reviews and integration across PLC, SCADA/HMI, DCS, historians, MES and enterprise IT platforms. • Assess existing plant automation landscapes, develop current-state and target-state architectures, identify technology and competency gaps, and define practical modernization roadmaps. • Design and review PLC programs, HMI/SCADA applications, control narratives, tag models, alarm strategies, interlocks, sequences, recipes and equipment interfaces for processing and packaging operations. • Own IT/OT and MES integration design, including OPC DA/UA connectivity, namespace and tag mapping, event/data collection, store-and-forward, middleware, API/database interfaces and data-quality controls. • Lead troubleshooting of complex production incidents spanning field devices, PLCs, industrial networks, OPC servers, SCADA, historians and MES; restore service safely and deliver detailed RCA and corrective/preventive actions. • Define resilient architectures, redundancy, backup/restore, disaster recovery, configuration management and lifecycle practices for mission-critical control systems. • Collaborate with plant engineering, operations, OEMs, system integrators, MES teams, infrastructure, network and cybersecurity teams during design, FAT, SAT, commissioning, cutover and stabilization. • Ensure solutions comply with applicable safety, quality, change-control, validation and OT cybersecurity requirements without compromising plant availability or product integrity. • Establish reusable engineering standards, naming conventions, templates, checklists, test protocols, support SOPs and knowledge artifacts; promote disciplined version control and documentation. • Mentor control engineers and support teams, lead technical workshops, estimate work, review vendor proposals and communicate technical risks, decisions and recommendations to customer leadership.
