Role & responsibilities Roles & Responsibilities • Associate Consultants are expected to perform admission histories, physical examinations, and develop an initial differential diagnosis, plan of treatment and write appropriate orders on patients admitted to their service. • During the course of the patients hospitalization, the attending consultant is expected to write daily progress notes at a frequency depending on the nature of the patient illness &, concerning the patient’s hospital course and to communicate daily with the Consultant / senior consultant. • During the patient’s hospitalization, when changes in treatment plan or in diagnosis are considered, the attending physician is expected to communicate with the Consultant and to write a note in the hospital record. • Decisions concerning patient care management, including responsibility for writing and/or approving orders, rest ultimately with the Consultant. • In emergency situations, the attending consultant should respond immediately to correct the acute emergency needs of the patient. • As soon as possible, the Consultant is to be notified by the attending physician of the condition of his or her patient. • Any statement made in the medical record by the attending consultant may be changed by the Consultant and initialed. • When handing over of patients at end of shift, proper documentation and progress of patient is to be noted
