Responsibilities • Ensure full compliance with the Factories Act, 1948, and state-specific Factory Rules. • Maintain mandatory safety registers, inspection records, and statutory documentation. • Act as the liaison officer for the Directorate of Industrial Safety and Health (DISH) during inspections and audits. • Coordinate the activities of the Safety Committee and ensure quarterly meetings are conducted, minutes recorded, and recommendations implemented. • Conduct regular HIRA (Hazard Identification and Risk Assessment) and JSA (Job Safety Analysis) for all shop-floor processes. • Oversee the implementation of Permit-to-Work (PTW) systems for high-risk activities (Hot Work, Working at Height, Confined Space, LOTO). • Perform daily Gemba safety walkthroughs to identify unsafe acts or conditions and ensure immediate corrective actions. • Lead the investigation of all incidents, near-misses, and dangerous occurrences using Root Cause Analysis (RCA) techniques (e.g., 5-Whys, Fishbone). • Develop and execute the annual safety training calendar for permanent staff and contract workers. • Conduct induction training for all new joiners and specialized training for forklift operators, emergency response teams, and electrical safety. • Organize mock drills (Fire, Chemical Spillage, Medical Emergency) periodically to ensure organizational readiness. • Promote safety awareness through campaigns, competitions, and internal communications to shift behavior toward proactive safety. • Maintain Fire Fighting systems, PPE inventory, and emergency medical facilities in operational readiness. • Coordinate with the medical officer for periodic health check-ups and monitoring of occupational hazards (noise, dust, vibration, lighting). Qualifications • Education: Degree in Engineering/Technology + Advanced Diploma in Industrial Safety (recognized by the Board of Technical Education or State Govt). • Experience: 36 years in a manufacturing/heavy engineering environment. • Knowledge Base: In-depth knowledge of the Factories Act and OSHA/ISO 45001 standards. • Proficiency in fire safety management and industrial hygiene. • Soft Skills: Strong analytical mindset, ability to enforce compliance firmly yet diplomatically, and effective communication skills in both local language and English. Key Performance Indicators • LTIFR: Lost Time Injury Frequency Rate reduction targets. • Audit Scores: Compliance rating in internal and external safety audits. • Training Coverage: 100% completion rate for mandatory safety training modules. • Closure Rate: Timely resolution of observations raised during safety committee meetings.
