**Core ServiceNow platform development** - JavaScript on the Now Platform (server-side + client-side) - Business Rules, Script Includes, UI Policies, Client Scripts - Scoped app development (App Engine) and solution architecture - Data modeling: tables, relationships, dictionary, CMDB concepts - UI: UI Builder/Workspaces, Service Portal, widgets, UI Actions (as applicable) **Automation & workflow** - Flow Designer and IntegrationHub (spokes/actions; scripting when needed) - Approvals, SLAs, orchestration, notifications/events - Strong “configure vs customize” judgment (upgrade-safe design) **Integrations & data** - REST/SOAP APIs, webhooks, OAuth, MID Server basics - Import Sets, Transform Maps, Data Sources; error handling/retries **Module/domain knowledge** - IT Service Management (ITSM): Incident/Problem/Change/Request - CMDB, Discovery/Service Mapping, IT Operations Management (ITOM) - Customer Service Management (CSM) **Quality, performance, and platform hygiene** - Performance tuning: query optimization, indexing, async processing - Testing: Automated Test Framework (ATF), regression mindset - Upgrade readiness; leverage out-of-box (OOB) capabilities - DevOps: update sets, CI/CD, source control, environment promotion **Security & governance** - Access controls (ACLs), roles, least privilege - Secure coding, auditing/logging, compliance awareness **Senior-level expectations** - Technical leadership: design reviews, mentoring, standards - Estimation and delivery planning; clear technical user stories/acceptance criteria - Stakeholder communication and tradeoff/risk management **Certifications (preferred)** - Certified System Administrator (CSA) - Module implementation certifications (e.g., ITSM, ITOM, CSM)
