Key Accountabilities • End-to-End Payroll Delivery: Own the complete payroll lifecycle across multiple countries, including payroll inputs, validations, gross-to-net processing, pre-payroll and post-payroll controls, approvals, payments support, statutory outputs, reconciliations, reporting and period closure. • Multi-Country Operations Governance: Coordinate country payroll calendars, cut-offs, dependencies, exception management and local requirements while maintaining a consistent global delivery framework. • SLA, KPI and Quality Management: Deliver agreed service levels, accuracy, timeliness and productivity targets; establish operating reviews, workload and capacity plans, quality checks, root-cause analysis, corrective actions and prevention of repeat errors. • Controls, Compliance and Audit Readiness: Maintain robust maker-checker controls, access governance, payroll sign-offs, reconciliation evidence, audit trails, records retention, business continuity and timely remediation of control gaps. Partner with appropriate specialists on country-specific statutory and policy requirements. • Transition and Stabilization: Lead knowledge transfer, process validation, SOP and desktop procedure creation, payroll calendar design, control definition, parallel runs, readiness reviews, cutover, go-live and stabilization for the new account. • Client and Stakeholder Management: Act as the primary tower contact for client Payroll, HR, Finance, Tax, Treasury, Benefits, HRIS and other connected teams; manage governance, escalations, dependencies, decisions and action closure. • Vendor and Third-Party Management: Govern payroll providers and other delivery partners against defined outcomes, calendars, controls, issue resolution and escalation protocols. • People Leadership: Lead, coach and develop managers, team leads and payroll specialists; establish role clarity, skill matrices, cross-training, succession plans and a culture of ownership, confidentiality, accuracy and customer focus. • Technology and Data Governance: Oversee payroll processing across relevant payroll, HRIS, time, case management and reporting platforms; govern interfaces, data validations, reconciliations, mass uploads, defects and change impacts. • Transformation and Improvement: Build an improvement roadmap covering global standardization, process simplification, automation, analytics, knowledge management, self-service and defect elimination. • Governance and Reporting: Provide executive-ready reporting on payroll status, service performance, accuracy, timeliness, backlog, risks, controls, capacity, customer experience, improvements and decisions required. Required Experience and Competencies • 12 to 18 years of overall experience, with substantial leadership experience in payroll operations, HR shared services, outsourcing or HRO delivery. • Proven ownership of end-to-end payroll operations across multiple countries, including complex payroll calendars, controls, reconciliations, issue management and governance. • Demonstrated experience managing large or multi-layered teams, client stakeholders, third-party payroll providers, service performance and business-critical escalations. • Strong understanding of payroll inputs and outputs, gross-to-net processing, payroll accounting interfaces, payments coordination, statutory deliverables, year-end or period-end activities and employee query dependencies. • Experience with payroll platforms such as SAP Payroll, Workday Payroll, Oracle HCM Payroll, ADP, CloudPay, Dayforce or equivalent, together with HRIS and case management tools. • Experience in transitions, knowledge transfer, parallel payroll runs, cutover, stabilization, operating model design, documentation and governance for new or expanding accounts. • Working knowledge of data privacy, segregation of duties, access controls, audit requirements and business continuity in a sensitive payroll environment. • Advanced analytical, reporting and presentation capability, including effective use of Excel and dashboards for operational decisions. • Excellent communication, executive presence, negotiation, problem-solving and stakeholder management skills. Education and Preferred Qualifications • Bachelor's degree in Commerce, Finance, Accounting, Human Resources, Business Administration or a related discipline; a postgraduate qualification is preferred. • Professional certification in payroll, HR operations, accounting, project management, Lean Six Sigma or service management is an advantage. • Experience supporting global or multi-country employee populations in an outsourcing or shared-services environment is preferred.
