Before the procedure • Prepare and check the Cath Lab, equipment, instruments, and supplies. • Ensure imaging systems, ECG monitors, defibrillator, injector, and other equipment are functioning. • Prepare sterile trays and maintain aseptic/sterile technique. • Check patient identification, procedure details, and relevant investigations as required by the hospital. • Help position and prepare the patient for the procedure. • Assist with preparation of contrast media, catheters, guidewires, balloons, stents, and other consumables. During the procedure • Assist the cardiologist by handling and preparing catheters, guidewires, balloons, stents, and other devices. • Operate or assist with fluoroscopy and imaging equipment according to training and hospital protocols. • Monitor and record procedural data, including pressures and ECG information where assigned. • Maintain a sterile field and follow infection-control precautions. • Assist with emergency procedures such as CPR and resuscitation when required. • Communicate with the cardiologist, nurses, radiographer, and other members of the Cath Lab team. After the procedure • Help with removal, cleaning, and appropriate disposal of equipment and biomedical waste. • Assist in preparing the patient for transfer to the recovery area/ICU. • Ensure used instruments are sent for decontamination and sterilization. • Check and restock Cath Lab supplies. • Complete relevant documentation and equipment/procedure records. Equipment & safety responsibilities • Perform routine checks and basic troubleshooting of Cath Lab equipment. • Follow radiation-safety principles, including appropriate use of protective equipment. • Follow hospital policies for infection prevention, biomedical waste, and emergency preparedness. • Report equipment malfunction, expired supplies, or safety problems promptly. • Common procedures they may assist with • Coronary angiography • Percutaneous coronary intervention (PCI/angioplasty and stenting) • Temporary pacemaker procedures • Device implantation procedures such as pacemakers/ICDs • Peripheral angiography/interventions • Hemodynamic studies and other catheter-based procedures
