Lead Instrumentation and Control Engineer

Role & responsibilities Key Responsibilities Design & Engineering Leadership • Lead preparation and review of control philosophy, instrument index, I/O list, cause & effect diagrams, control narratives, and instrument datasheets across all disciplines and product lines. • Own DCS/PLC/SCADA/ICCP architecture, network topology, and control system sizing for electrolyser, synthesis loop, and BOP packages. • Define hazardous area classification requirements in coordination with PS/EE and ensure instrument selection (Ex-rated transmitters, control valves, analysers) complies with area classification. • Review and approve field instrument specifications, control valve sizing/selection, and analyser system selection (H, O, NH, CO, purity analysers) in coordination with PE. • Develop and review junction box/marshalling cabinet layouts, cable schedules, and instrument installation details jointly with EE and CV. • Define the electrolyser power/control system boundary (rectifier control interface, stack protection interfaces) jointly with EE. Process Safety & SIS • Lead SIL determination studies (LOPA) with PS, and own SIL verification / PFDavg calculations for Safety Instrumented Functions (SIFs) up to project completion. • Participate as the C&I discipline lead in HAZOP, HAZID, and SIL workshops; ensure safeguards identified are translated correctly into logic, interlocks, and SIS architecture. • Ensure Safety Instrumented System (SIS) design, proof-test intervals, and bypass/override philosophy comply with IEC 61511/61508 and client requirements. • Own cybersecurity (IEC 62443) requirements for control system architecture in coordination with client IT/OT policies. Vendor, Procurement & Construction Support • Review vendor/package unit (electrolyser, compressor, rectifier, reformer, synthesis loop) control and instrumentation scope for interface completeness and specification compliance. • Lead technical bid evaluation (TBE) for DCS/PLC/SCADA/SIS packages and major instrumentation, and support FAT/SAT and instrument loop checks at vendor works and site. • Provide construction and commissioning support: instrument installation checks, loop checks, control narrative validation, and pre-commissioning punch-list closure. Team & Coordination • Supervise and mentor C&I engineers/designers within the discipline; review deliverables for technical adequacy prior to inter-discipline issue. • Coordinate proactively with PE, EE, PS, PIPE, CV and PROP desks per the defined interface matrix; flag conflicts early rather than resolving them unilaterally. • Support PROP desk with C&I scope definition, MTO, and cost basis inputs during proposal stage. • Maintain discipline document register, ensure timely issue of deliverables per project schedule (IDC/IFR/IFC).
