The role requires strong understanding of merchant underwriting, early risk identification, policy execution, and crossfunctional collaboration. The incumbent will work closely with Credit, Product, Operations, Compliance, and Business teams to ensure that merchant growth is balanced with robust risk control and portfolio quality. **Key Responsibilities:** **1. Merchant Onboarding Assessment & Management** - Conduct risk assessment during merchant onboarding across business models, industries, geographies, and ticket sizes. - Evaluate merchant profile, KYB/KYC, business stability, transaction behaviour expectations, and risk signals. - Ensure adherence to credit and merchant risk policies, underwriting guidelines, and regulatory requirements. - Recommend onboarding approvals, rejections, conditions, or limits based on risk analysis. **2. Merchant Portfolio Management** - Own and manage the ongoing risk performance of the merchant portfolio. - Monitor portfolio trends, concentration risk, industry exposure, delinquency indicators, disputes, fraud signals, and settlement risks. - Identify early warning signals and recommend remediation strategies including limit revisions, settlement holds, or enhanced monitoring. - Support portfolio optimisation while maintaining risk appetite alignment. **3. Merchant Periodic Reviews** - Conduct periodic and triggerbased reviews of existing merchants. - Reassess merchant risk ratings based on transaction trends, business performance, compliance observations, and behavioural patterns. - Document review outcomes and present actionable insights to senior stakeholders. - Drive corrective actions resulting from reviews in collaboration with Operations and Business teams. **4. Merchant Journey / Underwriting Process Changes** - Partner with Product and Credit teams to enhance merchant onboarding and underwriting workflows. - Evaluate impact of process changes on approval rates, risk quality, fraud exposure, and customer experience. - Contribute to policy updates, rule calibrations, risk frameworks, and journey optimisation initiatives. - Participate in design and rollout of risk controls across digital and manual journeys. **5. Merchant Risk Management** - Develop and maintain merchant risk frameworks, risk indicators, and control mechanisms. - Ensure compliance with internal risk policies, regulatory expectations, and partner requirements. - Support internal audits, regulatory reviews, and risk governance forums. - Drive continuous improvement in merchant risk identification, monitoring, and mitigation. **6. Stakeholder Management** - Act as a key risk point of contact for Business, Credit, Operations, Product, Compliance, and external partners. - Present risk insights, portfolio updates, and recommendations to senior management, including the Credit Risk Head. - Balance risk and growth discussions through datadriven decisionmaking. - Support business teams with riskbased solutions without compromising portfolio health. **Required Skills & Experience** **Experience** - **8+ years of experience** in risk management, credit risk, merchant risk, or underwriting roles. - Prior handson experience in **merchant risk management** is mandatory. - Experience in fintech, payments, lending, NBFC, or banking preferred. **Technical & Functional Skills** - Strong understanding of merchant onboarding, underwriting, and lifecycle risk. - Ability to analyse transaction data, portfolio metrics, and risk indicators. - Knowledge of KYB/KYC norms, AML considerations, and regulatory requirements. - Experience working with crossfunctional teams and senior stakeholders. - Comfortable with policy documentation, process design, and control frameworks. **Behavioural & Leadership Attributes** - Strong analytical and problemsolving skills. - Excellent communication and stakeholder management capabilities. - High ownership mindset with attention to detail. - Ability to operate in a fastpaced, evolving business environment. - Balanced approach towards risk control and business enablement. - Team Handling experience **Educational Qualification** - Bachelors degree in Finance, Business, Economics, Engineering, or related field. - Postgraduate qualification (MBA / CA / CFA / FRM) preferred bu
