ROLES AND RESPONSIBILITIES: Key Responsibilities • Ensure correct identification of the patient, operative site and surgery . • Implement operation theatre general care protocols. • Check financial clearance, consents, all investigations and blood products arranged for surgery. • Inspect room for proper temperature, cleanliness, properly functioning equipment. • Assure availability of routine OT supplies / instruments, equipments for all speciality operations. • Open sterile instruments and supplies needed for start of procedure using aseptic technique. Set up surgical table count and inspect all instruments. • Count instruments, sponges and sharp both scrub / circulatory Nurse at appropriate times throughout procedure. • Assist the Anaesthetist & Surgeon during procedures. • Assist surgical team with gowning and gloving. • Assure that any and all prep solutions are dry before draping. • Knowledge regarding patient disease condition and treatment / operation. • Critical thinking at the time of emergency situations like, fire, profused bleeding, immediate return to OT. • Knowledge regarding handling, care, maintenance of biomedical equipment, instruments. • Ensure the specimen has been properly identified, labelled, counterchecked and dispatched. • Assure adequate personnel for safe transfer of patient in Post op / ICU. • Assure OT notes, activity billing and charging of consumables. • Place all instrument trays into case cart and handed over to CSSD. • Check for OT clean-up and preparation for next case. • Will adhere to all safety policies and safe work practices. (Sharps policy, falls, communicable disease etc.) • Adhere to all hospital policies and procedures. • Participates in unit staff meeting, monthly meeting with Nursing Leadership, IDTR round which will enhance the quality of services provided to patient. • Recognizes own limitation, seeks information and advice when unable to solve conflict/ problems on an individual basis. Maintains required professional licenses and updation of Registration • Demonstrates competency in the following areas. • Basic competency annual competency assessment and training. • BLS / ACLS & PALS • Fire Safety & Infection Control • Radiation Safety & Proper use of biomedical equipment. • NABH Standards • Waste Management Policy • Others as when scheduled • Is knowledgeable of patient rights and responsibilities and treats all patients with dignity and respect in a consistent and caring manner. • Understands the need for and maintains appropriate confidentiality at all times when interacting with patients, family, visitors and all other contacts • Exhibits excellent customer relations skills as evidenced by supportive and constructive communication with all contacts including co-workers, patient, visitors, families.
